Chapter 4 Please Help Me

Nyla's POV:

Killian furrowed his brows and locked his eyes onto me.

Despite my hatred and fear toward him, I summoned the courage to beg him for help to save my mother.

"Could you... possibly lend me some money?"

"Money?" He looked at me with a sarcastic expression and said, "So it turns out that all you want is money. You're willing to let the werewolves do whatever they please as long as you get it, right?"

"No!" I was shocked and taken aback. How could he make such baseless accusations against me?

I gazed at him with anxiety and explained, "My mother is in the hospital with a serious illness. If I can't gather the money for her surgery, she'll die!"

Killian shot me a frigid glance and paid no heed to my explanation. "You're lying. If you want to kneel here, go ahead. It's none of my concern," he said.

As he began to walk away, I felt a sense of panic and raised my voice, "But I'm your mate!"

Killian was evidently surprised by what I had said. He abruptly halted, turned around, and shot me a look of revulsion.

"My mate?" Killian gave me a disdainful once-over and sneered, "I didn't sense anything at all. You're a pathetic loser who doesn't even have a wolf. How dare you entertain the thought of being my mate? Stop dreaming!"

He didn't feel anything? I gazed at him blankly, my thoughts in disarray. I was at a loss for words.

How could it be possible? There was an intense spark between us that night.

What happened? I couldn't help but wonder if he denied our mate bond simply because I was a lowly maid. Was that the reason why he refused to acknowledge me as his mate and even went so far as to call for my expulsion from the pack?

"You'd better go now. Don't appear in front of me again!" Killian commanded impatiently.

I snapped out of my daze.

No way! I couldn't go back to my mother empty-handed. After all, she was waiting for me to save her life!

I crawled forward hastily, my knees throbbing with pain, but I paid them no mind.

"No! Please!" I clutched onto Killian's legs and begged with utmost humility. I had never begged anyone before, not even during the times I was bullied. I realized that when it came to my mother's life, my pride was inconsequential.

"Please, please help me!" I clung onto his legs with all my might, as though they were a lifeline. My mother's fate was now in his hands, and I couldn't contain my tears. "I beg you, I swear I'll repay you once I can earn enough money, and I promise to never cross your path again. Please, save my mother!"

Killian was merciless. Without any hesitation, he wrenched my hands away from his legs.

"Get out of my sight!" With no regard for my well-being, he callously shoved me to the ground, and I landed with a heavy thud.

"No..." As he headed back toward his room, I felt a surge of anxiety and attempted to get back up. However, my legs were numb, and I ended up stumbling and collapsing back onto the ground.

Just then, a few werewolves happened to pass by and spotted me. Their fierce gazes frightened me to the core. They lunged at me, baring their sharp teeth and claws, and menacingly threatened me.

"Nyla, our Alpha has already banished you. How dare you return! You're dead!"

With a desperate glance at Killian's closed door, I realized the werewolves were getting closer by the second. I had no choice but to summon all my strength to get back on my feet and stumble away.

I lost track of how long I had been running. My legs had gone numb from exhaustion, but the werewolves relentlessly pursued me until I was far away from the Black Moon Pack.

Despite feeling utterly exhausted and in pain all over my body, I summoned the last of my strength and made my way to the hospital.

As I arrived at the ward, the doctor was standing by the door. I wanted to plead with him once more to save my mother.

However, before I could even utter a word, the doctor shook his head and uttered the dreadful words. "She's dying. You should be with her in her final moments."

What?

The doctor's words hit me like a thunderbolt. I watched him walk away in a daze, my mind completely blank. With my last ounce of strength, I rushed into the ward. My mother lay in the bed, her face as pale as death.

Tears streamed down my face as I gazed at my mother. She had been my constant companion, and had shown me nothing but love. Now, as she lay dying, I felt powerless and overwhelmed with grief. All I could do was watch and pray for a miracle.

"I'm... I'm sorry, Mom." I fell to my knees beside the bed, my vision blurred with tears. Overwhelmed with regret and sorrow, I struggled to form a coherent sentence. The weight of my mother's impending death was crushing, and I couldn't bear the thought of losing her.

"This is all my fault. I'm just a useless..." Tears streamed down my face uncontrollably, as if a floodgate had opened within me.

"It's fine." My mother's voice, frail and weak, reassured me as she added, "You're not to blame."

I was overwhelmed with sadness, unable to find any words to respond to my mother's comfort, which only deepened my guilt and sorrow.

She made an effort to pull her arm out of the blanket, and I instinctively took hold of her hand, feeling lost and unsure of what to do next.

With a feeble hand, my mother revealed a ring in her palm. The crescent-shaped gemstone embedded in it sparkled in the dim light, radiating a sense of value.

My mother's voice grew fainter as she spoke. "This ring has been passed down from our ancestors. Keep it safe and live a good life, Nyla."

Then she closed her eyes, and her hand fell lifelessly onto the bed.

"Mom!" Desperately, I called out to her, but she remained unresponsive. I held onto her tightly, pressing my cheek against her forehead. Tears continued to flow down my face, and I felt her body gradually grow colder and colder.
