Chapter 4 Let Her Go

I followed D boss into the Royce. I felt cowered by fear in her intimidating presence. But I could not let it show. I was bad at hiding it, that, I knew. But I did try my best not to let it show, that I find her presence overwhelming.

After what felt like an hour drive, we arrived in front of a gigantic building. The best mansion I had ever seen all my life. It looked like the architect was flawless in everything. Of course he was, that's if it's a he.

I was wearing an evening dress that reached my ankles. The slit on it was reaching my thigh. The dress reminds me of fire because of its colour. I could just say, "I'm on fire". It has just one sleeve, leaving my left hand bare. And because of its nature, I wonder what the show was all about. I doubted D boss brought me here for mere fun or for a tour.

We stepped into the building and was led through a hallway by who I presume to be an usher if not a steward.

My mouth paused in awe when I saw the crowd of people in the hall dressed so fine and mingling so flawlessly.

D boss took my hand, a side smile curving up her lips. It was as though I was being walked down the aisle as we walked into the crowd. Then she left me in the midst of the crowd whilst asking me to mingle with people.

How was I going to do that? I had no clue about who's who. I have been trained on conversational skills. It's one thing we must learn, but this was too sudden. I grabbed a glass of white wine and gulped it down my throat.

Then I dropped the glass with the guy standing next to me. He looked at me strangely, and I knew why. I too wondered at where I got that courage from to dump an empty glass with a random person in what I presume to be a ball. A ball I was not invited to.

"Please, where's the rest room?" I asked him wanting to kill the awkwardness. But I must have made things even more awkward because the next thing he did was ask me if I had come with a date or alone. I felt annoyed by the question but wore a smirk instead. Then I became flirty.

"Would you like me to be your date? Is that why you asked?" I winked at him and tapped on his shoulder. However flirty I was, I remained poised. I wasn't going to appear cheap. You can flirt and still be classy, not cheap.

I noticed he gulped. Then a wry smile appeared on my face.

"I love men who are bold," I stated before walking away. I climbed up the stairs not knowing where I was headed. For a brief moment I turned to look if I could spot D boss in the crowd. I did not see her and so I became confused as to where she went.

"Ouch!" I yelped as I head butt with someone while climbing the stairs. I should have watched where I was going. I wanted to apologise to this person, but I looked up and something in me snapped.

"If I was looking, I'd say it was my fault. So, how come you bumped into me?" I asked this very slim lady who seemed to have a perfect shape desirable by men.

Any man's hand would fit perfectly around her tiny waist. I already sized her up. Her blue eyes and her maroon coloured hair. She must be very unique unless she dyed that hair.

I felt my ears ring as a thundering slap landed on my face. That stung so bad. And I never felt so insulted and embarrassed. I would have fought back, but I had no power to fight. She could be a wolf or a vampire, who knows what? I was not ready to risk it. So I chose to be diplomatic.

I picked an handkerchief from the purse in my hand. I wiped my cheek where she had hit me. Then I shook my head.

"What a pity, since when did things moved out of dialogue to fist? Should you not be a lady with class with all the beauty you have?" I asked her. It was mockery because that was all sarcasm. And if she was sensible enough, I hoped she'd understand and let me pass in peace.

But then she hits my chest and sent me flying down from the stairs. I fell to the ground. I could barely feel myself for the next 5 seconds. With speed equal to lightning, I soon found her standing next to me. She was so fast. I wanted to believe at that moment that she was a vampire. Did D boss brought me to a party of vampires? They are so uncivilised. Is she trying to get me killed? Because I almost got killed by one once.

I tried to stand up when a shoe stepped on my fingers. It was so agonising.

"How did a human get into my party?" A deep and authoritative voice dished its way into my ears. I looked up to see the owner of the shoe.

I could barely see his face. He was looking straight at the lady who had hit me. I wanted to scream from the pain I was feeling in my fingers, but I knew better than to do that.

"Let her go!" I heard a voice that sounded so familiar, yet audacious. And I immediately knew who it was. It was Stacy. The dress and the shoe, the way she stood there, I could tell it was her. And she seemed ready to fight, a fight she'd not win. And I thought in my heart, we were definitely going to die, as Stacy rushed towards the vampire who was stepping only fingers.
