Chapter 4 Karla's Allergy

"What did he just say?" Mrs Norman asked her daughter whose mouth was wide agape as she was also surprised about what her younger brother just said.

She dropped her weight back where she was earlier and sighed.

"Come to think of it mum, he's somewhat right."

"Right, did you just say right?. How right can he be?"

"Let's say he's right about you calling her bad luck. I've always wanted to ask why you suddenly hate her as well. She's been friends with Kyle for a while now and you were fine with it. Why the sudden change?" Mitha folded her arms across her bust expecting a reply from her mom.

"You can't understand even if I tell you." Mrs Norman was obviously nervous.

"Then make me understand. At least, you can begin from somewhere."

"Are you questioning me?. I said it!. This girl is terrible. My two children are now going against my words just for her matter. Which spell did she use on you guys?" she stood up and headed quickly to her room feigning anger.

"Hold on mum. Point of correction, she didn't use any spell on me neither am I going against you. But if you deem it fit not to tell me the reason, I might as well ask dad." Mitha smirked after she uttered her last statement. Her mother turned back sharply looking at her and pointed her index finger at her.

"You dare!" she said. Her husband, Mr Norman is an attorney of the law and well respected across the country. He's very nice, caring and understanding. Got married to his wife immediately he finished school, and they birthed two kids, a female, then a male. He really loved his wife so much and condoned all her excesses without complains.

Until after she did something terrible that almost damaged his lifelong career. He couldn't forgive her and she wasn't repentant either which led to thier divorce. During the divorce process, she had pleaded with him not to take away her children and he agreed out of the love he still had for her.

On her part, she turned the children against their father lying to them about what made them separate. As children, they believed her. Growing up, they began to doubt the validity of her story since she made them swear an oath that under no circumstance would they ever meet thier father and rang it to their ears from time to time how evil thier father is. 'As she said'. Who does that?.

"Oooh. Your look is kind of fascinating right now. If only you would look at a mirror. You seem anxious mum, why?" Mitha asked in whispers.

"I bet you don't want to try me......."

"It's okay!" she was cut short. "I won't say more and that doesn't mean I'm supporting Kyle. Not because of you, but I never liked the girl in the first place." she passed her mum on the staircase, entered her room, and shut the door behind her with a smirk on her face.

"This is just the beginning." she murmured.

Mrs Norman sighed heavily rubbing her left palm on her chest.

"Gosh!, this kids are a whole lot of headache. It's seems they're doubting what I told them already. I have to step up the pedal before they find out about anything." she thought within herself and went to her room as well.

*Hmmmmmmmn!.

A light knock was heard on Aster's door and she permitted the person to enter. It was Josh. He had knocked lightly so as not to wake Arby who just fell asleep.

He took a seat opposite her on her bed and studied her face for a while. It was devoid of any expression.

"How was lesson today?" he asked her.

"Fine as usual." she didn't look up at him as she continued flipping the pages of her book unable to comprehend anything.

"Are you............?" Josh wanted to ask something but was interrupted by a loud noise coming from the twins room.

"What's that sound?" Aster was fully alert.

"I don't know. It's like something broke in Karla and Darla's room."

Before any of them could utter any word, they heard Darla yelling. Out of fear that something bad happened to them, Aster and Josh hastened to their room.

"You are nothing but a discontented fool. Look what you got yourself into. Just take a look at yourself!" They heard as Aster wanted to turn the door knob.

Aster was not sure why they were arguing, but she was definitely sure that it has something to do with Karla's allergic accident.

"What's going on here?. At the middle of the night?" Aster finally entered.

The twins immediately bowed their head low as they saw thier older siblings enter thier room. Karla suddenly hissed and laid on the bed pretending to be oblivious of Aster and Josh's presence.

"What's wrong Karla?" asked Josh. There was no reply. The room became dead silent.

"Speak to me. Speak up!. What's wrong?" he moved closer to her dragging her up, but she insisted to be left alone laying on the bed.

"Are you alright Karla?. Is something wrong with you?. I mean what's gotten into you?. You caused enough trouble today, yet you're causing another now. Do you even know......." Josh got angry and continued scolding her until Aster held his hand indicating for him to stop.

Karla felt guilty of her action. She stood up and knelt on the bed with her hands in each other.

"I'm sorry." she muttered. Aster sat beside her holding her growing little hands in hers and asked her what she's sorry of.

"I'm sorry for causing trouble and making you worried" she couldn't look straight into her sister's eyes.

"You should be sorry for being stubborn and discontented as well." Darla chipped in with her arms crossed across her chest. Karla shot her a killer glance and faced Aster back.

"What does she mean by being discontented?." Josh asked fiercely. Aster stood up and held his hand.

"You don't have to get angry at her. You shouting won't change anything. What has happened, has happened. You'll only scare her from speaking."

Josh nodded his head in understanding and sat beside his you get sister on the bed.

"I'm sorry for shouting at you Karla, but you made everyone worried and you're still behaving stupidly. Sorry for using the word stupid anyway. It remains the fact that whatever it is you did was so stupid." he said to her in the most calmest voice ever.

Karla was now sobbing. She had always being the first one to disobey rules im the house.

"I'm sorry. I won't ever do it again."

"Sure, I know you won't. You're still my little baby girl." Josh kissed her forehead and pat her back.

"Anyway, what was it you ate?" Aster wanted to know to prevent such from happening again.

"It's Sephina. She gave me a peach fruit while we were playing and I ate it after collecting it from her......"

"Sephina!!!!" Aster and Josh shouted in chorus with fright evident on thier faces.

"How dare she?" Josh balled his fist in anger and Aster jolted from her slight moment of reverie when she heard Arby's muffled cries from her room. She sighed and instructed them all to go to bed.

"We'll talk about this later. We have to go sleep. Early to bed, early to rise" she said to them pecking each of them on their cheeks and covered them with the duvets after which she left for her room with Josh behind her.
