Chapter 4 Chaos

"Beauty what an interesting nickname"

Sage POV

"Strawberry smoothie with whip cream!" The worker yelled throughout the coffee shop.

I got up from my seat that was next to Anna. I walked over grabbing my drink, and gave the guy a little nod to say thanks.

"That guy was totally checking you out sage!" Stella exclaimed while clapping her hands.

"What guy?" I asked while turning my head in every direction to see who she was talking about.

"The same guy that has been giving you the same drink, and same look since freshman year." She said pointing behind me.

I looked at the guy she was talking about and responded.

"Oh, Cameron?"

"You know his name?" Anna asked beside me with a straw in her mouth.

"Yeah, he's been in our graphic design class since the beginning of the year."

I stated while looking at Anna.

He was an average looking guy, but I never really thought or talked to him. Well even if I wanted too, I probably wouldn't get much words out without sounding like a person that has never learned English before.

She looked at Cameron, who was currently on hot bar making drinks.

"Oh, well I don't pay attention to people who don't have any important significance to me." She said with a shrug while looking at a fashion magazine.

"Anna don't be rude" Stella said giving Anna a scowl.

"Never said I was nice." She said flipping through pages.

"You got a point there, but anyway Sage you should say hi."

Before I could even say anything, Anna jumped in.

"No Sage shouldn't say hi, because firstly you're talking to Sage. The girl that stumbles on her words even if a stranger talk to her, let alone a guy."

She closed her magazine and slapped it onto the table in frustration before she continued.

"Secondly, if the guy can't even say anything to her but "here's your drink" for two whole freaking years. He's pathetic and a pathetic guy is definitely not what Sage needs."

"So, tell me Mrs. Cupid how is that relationship going to work. When both are scared to speak to each other?"

Anna finished with a shallow breath and an annoyed look.

"Woah what the heck is your problem?" Stella asked with a disgusted face.

Anna looked at both of us, in deep regret before she spoke up.

"I'm sorry guys, I'm just having problems with Darren and-"

"I don't care who you're having problems with, that's no excuse to act like a butt towards everyone else, or hurt people's feelings," Stella said pointing at my face.

"With that said I have a meeting to go to for student council. So, I won't be home until later. I expect an apology from you by then." Stella got up from her seat grabbing her purse and stormed out of the coffee shop.

With Stella gone awkward silence fell between Anna and me, I. Stella was right though, and I completely agree with her.

It was a little hurtful.

Especially when this isn't the first time that Anna did this out of frustration that has been caused by her many fights with Darren.

"I'm really sorry Sage, I really didn't mean to hurt your feelings, and I think Cameron and you can make-"

"It's fine," I said quickly.

I stood up and walked out as well leaving Anna alone at the table. I wasn't trying to be mean, but sometimes Anna can go way too far.

My shyness is one thing I need to work on but sometimes I feel like Anna can be insensitive when it comes to that.

Or maybe I'm just being a baby about the whole thing. However, that doesn't mean that it wasn't a little hurtful.

A few minutes of walking and thinking. I ended up at the college campus. I opened the doors and headed to the last classes that I had for the day.

~

"Okay class, tomorrow we are going to present our project to the class so be ready. You are dismissed for the day."

I got up from my seat gathering my stuff quickly in my arms. I was trying to ignore Jeff from coming towards me. I really didn't, want to deal with him since the whole thing from last week. Especially when Anna decided to become my partner and basically force him to find another one.

I snuck out and left the classroom and headed towards the outside doors. However, I stopped in my tracks and realized I didn't know where I was exactly heading to.

I didn't know where Anna was, she was supposed to be in graphic design, but I didn't see her after I left the coffee shop.

She was probably still upset and decided to take a drive to blow off some steam like she usually does.

I continued to step outside to see if Stella was possibly waiting for me with her car ready to go.

She was nowhere in sight. So, I decided to text her to find out where she was. I didn't know if she was still in her meeting for student council.

Hopefully, she was done. It was at least two hours since the last time I saw her.

When I retrieved my phone from my back pocket, there was a text from Stella that appeared on my screen.

"Hey, I'm so sorry Sage but is there any way you can ride home with Anna I got caught up in work from student council. I have to stay another hour."

Great.

How was I going to get home? My class was done 15 minutes ago, and people were already clearing out the parking lot because of the dark clouds that we're forming over.

So, walking home was out of the question. I decided to turn around and go inside until I figured out how to get home.

I was running towards the steps of the college until I felt an impact on my shoulder. My books fell from my arms on to the concrete.

I knew right away that I hit somebody. I quickly looked up and started apologizing. I was already speaking before I realized who it was.

"I'm so sorry-" I stopped talking when I saw a pair of hazel eyes right in front of me.

"Wow she finally speaks." He said while looking at me.

I ignored his look and quickly picked up my books from the ground. Once all of them were in my hands, I looked up once again.

"So, what are doing out here when it's about to rain?" He asked looking at the sky.

"Um I was-s ttry-ing t-"

"So, you can speak but you can't even form or even finish a sentence." He said with a scoff.

He walked off while shaking his head. When he was about halfway down the stairs. I took a deep breath, and try to talk to him for the last time.

"I-I don't have a ride to get home."

He stopped in his tracks and turned around and just stared at me. He stared for quite a minute even putting his hands in his leather jacket and tilting his head.

Just like he did the other night.

He finally nodded his head towards the parking lot. I walked down the steps and followed him.

We walked in synchronization towards his car. We finally came upon his car, the same one that was used for racing last week.

He unlocked the doors for me to open and once I settled into the car and closed the door before the rain got in.

He pulled out of the parking space and headed to my place. Within a few minutes, Ky started talking, and it was complete torture. Partly because of the awkward situation. I didn't know him, and it was basically riding in the car with a stranger.

The fact that he seemed really close to Ricky, Darren, Anna, and Stella was a bonus. However, I was still surprised that I technically asked him for a ride home.

"So, if you don't speak much I'm guessing you don't socialize with people often?" He asked while digging in his pocket.

I didn't answer him right away because he pulled out a cigarette, and popped it in his mouth.

He looked around the car a little diverting his eyes from the road. Let me remind you we were still driving as well, and it was raining.

He looked past me near the door and pointed near my knee. I looked at where he was pointing at and found a green lighter in the slot beside me.

I picked up the lighter and passed it to him. He grabbed it from my hand lighting up the stick.

"So, I guess I'll take that silence as a no. So, what do you do on the weekends if not socialize with people?" He asked while blowing out a smoke.

We stopped at a red light just before the street that I had to turned into. He shifted his head a little looking at me and waited for an answer.

"Um I re-ead and watch TV"

He chuckled a little under his breath but responded.

"Mmmmh how original." He said with sarcasm.

I looked at him, but he was already looking straight ahead with his damp hair falling into his eyes.

Man, why did he have to smoke, it just messes it up so bad. He was just so beautiful.

"So, you can gaze at me, but you can't even speak to me?" He said with a smirk growing onto his face.

I decided to not say anything, I mean it was already embarrassing enough that he caught me staring at him.

I instead told him the last of the directions to my apartment. We finally pulled up in front of the building.

Before I opened the door, I turned towards him to say Thanks.

However, he spoke up before I could even get a word out.

"No need to say thank you beauty, You probably can't even get the words out if you tried." He said while flicking his cigarette out the window.

I nodded my head and opened the door stepping out onto the rain. I didn't even close it fully within a second before he sped down the road.

I stood there for a second in the rain thinking about the name Beauty.

Beauty what an interesting nickname.
