Chapter 4 Fight for you

Chapter 3

Derek's pov

I kept thinking about Layla and looking at the piece of paper with her name on it. Part of me really wanted to call her, but the other part just wasn't ready. I mean she seemed nice, but so did Beth at first. Hell, Beth had everyone fooled thinking she was this amazing woman that was very much in love with me.

No one wanted to be with a man that was rarely home. They got tired of it then they strayed. My heart couldn't take being hurt again. I just wasn't ready to fully put myself out there just yet. So, I threw away the number, and decided it was for the best. I doubted he would ever see her again.

Hell, she probably forgot all about him already.

He finished packing his gear for his fight tonight so he could head to the arena early. He liked being there before all the fans showed up so he could just relax and get his mind right. He needed to get into his fighter mode and forget all about women.

Tonight, he was fighting some newbie that thought he was "the best." Well, I had news for him no one is the best at this. All it takes is one move to win. One person can take everything you worked so hard for away. Nothing was a guarantee in this job. It was getting old fast. Little did anyone know this was my last fight.

I was going to lose and be done with it all. I'm too old for it. I want to be home more. I have joined up with my little brother and opened an advertising firm. No one thinks I will be able to handle a desk job, but I crave that kind of stability.

Maybe once I am stable, I can finally find someone good.

I got to the club where the fights are held and went into the back to get ready. I just wanted this night to be over. I heard my music and gathered up with my crew to talk my final walk as a fighter. It was bittersweet in a way. Fighting taught me so much. Now it is someone else's turn to learn.

Once I got to the ring I looked around. I was shocked to see Layla sitting in the front row. I wondered what a girl like her was doing in a place like this. I saw she was holding a sign with my opponent's name on it.

Was she dating him? Did she only give me her number to find out information to give her boyfriend? Now I was beyond angry. I hoped she enjoyed watching her boyfriend get the crap knocked out of him. Forget losing I was going to go out with a bang. This was going to be fun.
