Chapter 8 Eighth Chapter

Chapter 8

"Oh hey Prez, funny we ran into each other, I wanted to talk to you." Debbie said in her annoying voice, I knew her voice was the most annoying sound on the planet, but today it sounded like nails scratching on a board, like the most unpleasant sound you would ever hear. I swallowed, forcing my eyes away from Joseph, and look at her straight in the eyes. Because for some reason I was mad at Joseph, I didn't even want to look in his direction. Which was weird because he didn't do anything to me, just that time we bumped into each other, and it was my fault too, I didn't understand why I was mad. "Yes Deborah?" I asked, using her full name, because I knew she didn't like it. She glared for a full minute, but I looked away irritated, because I didn't understand why I felt the need to taunt her. "It's Debbie to you. And I wanted to relieve you of some of your presidential duties, I know you have so much pressure, and so much work to do with so little time. And no, you don't need to thank me, I will readily make myself available for your service." She said smiling a huge, obviously fake smile. I frowned in confusion, I know Debbie was one of the people I have had problems with since I started off as president. I know first hand she didn't like me or my ways of doing stuff, so why on Earth would she want to help me? Except there was something in it for her.. something she desperately wanted. "Why would you want to do that?" Andrina asked. She rolled her eyes. "Can't I be nice for the sake of being nice?" She asked rhetorically. But I answered anyway. "Deborah, I have known you for a long time, you definitely want something."

She huffed, "look can you just let me give the new hottie a tour of the school??"

Of course, that was what she would want, like I shouldn't have guessed that. I wanted to scream no, but what would be my reasons?

"Are you sure?" I asked one more time, hoping she would drop it and let me do it. She nodded excitedly. "I mean, I wasn't doing anything, so I don't mind." She replied.

"Sure, of course. Why not?" I say. But the rock in my chest doubled in size, because it hurt more than before. "Thank you so much!!!" She clapped and turned around, linking arms with Joseph, and skipped away with him, literally skipped, as they went in the opposite direction. I closed my eyes briefly, taking a deep calming breath, wondering why the rock was still in place. "Are you okay?" Andrina asked me. I jolted in surprise, for a second I forgot they were actually there. "Yeah, sure why not?" I asked, flashing them a huge smile. "Why did you let her take him?" Sophie asked with annoyance written all over her features. Before I could get the chance to answer, my alarm rang. "Oh my goodness!! I totally spaced about the volunteering at the elderlies!" I exclaimed after looking at my phone. Andrina nodded, and started out to the car park, she knew how much it meant to me, volunteering at the elderlies. My alarm was set thirty minutes before my shift started, so I could get ready and head out before the actual time. "So did you fill out your college application form yet?" Andrina asked us as she drove. "Not yet, I'm not sure I want to go to college." Sophie replied from the back seat.

That was her usual reply to this question each time it was asked, but I knew she was lying about it. She just felt pressured, and wanted to do things on her own. "Of course I have, hopefully Yale accepts me." I say sighing. "I know they will Carrie, you are the smartest person ever." Andrina says. "And you?" I asked waving off the compliments, I didn't do well with compliments, I didn't know what to do if someone complimented me. "I wanted to go into one of the local colleges here, but my dad is saying something about leaving the city, or the country, I'm not so sure." She replied. My head whipped in her direction. "Not another country!!" I cried. We have been best friends since we were in diapers, another country meant I might never see her again, I didn't want that. She chuckled, "of course I won't agree on another country, I definitely won't."

I rested my head on the head rest, closing my eyes, trying to get myself mentally prepared for the elderlies, they were as sweet as they come, but I needed enough mental energy to deal with them. Brown orbs appeared behind my eye lids as I tried to rest, I opened my eyes immediately. "What is that?" Andrina asked worriedly. Before I could collect my thoughts and give a proper response, she entered the driveway. I could sight them from the car, immediately my troubles eased, and a genuine smile replaced my frown. "Thank you for the ride, see ya tomorrow!" I say waving as she backed away from the driveway. They waved back, and I ran to the building. "Miss Ana!!" I greeted cheerily. Ana was the oldest here, but I loved calling her Miss, it made her feel younger, her words not mine. She smiled as soon as she recognized me. Her best friend, Cecile, pushed her around on her wheelchair towards me, and I bent down to hug her. "You look dashing Miss Ana."

She waved her hand dismissively, but I knew she enjoyed compliments. "Happy birthday Carolyn." Cecile said smiling. I blushed, I didn't tell them it was my birthday. "How long did you think you could hide it?" She asked. Soon all the elderlies surrounded me, as they sang in happiness. I smiled so widey cheeks hurt. We had cake later, the only time they could have cake was special occasions. I think that's why they looked for my birthday. Dad had the turn to come pick me up from the elderlies. When he came, I was beat, I fell asleep immediately I got in the car. "Dear Dawn, Today was the best day ever, and also the most confusing day in the history of confusing days, I will tell you more about it later, but for now, I have to go to bed. Good night Dawn."

I wrote, right before my head hit the pillow.
