Chapter 7 Knight In Shining Armor

The last day of the competition rolled by and Elena was only able to bag a few deals even with Garry's help. Obviously, Addy had done a better job.

Everyone in the company already knew that Elena was going to be replaced soon.

"Congratulations, Addy!"

Addy's subordinates congratulated him when he was about to leave the company in the evening.

He had signed deals that were ten times the value of Elena's own. As a result, everyone came to the conclusion that he was the next president.

He was going to level up from the vice-president position to that of president once his appointment letter was handed to him tomorrow morning.

A complacent smile appeared on Addy's face. He waved at his subordinates and said, "Thank you all. Continue to work hard. Under my administration, you all will get promoted and pay rise."

"Thank you, Mr. Collins. We look forward to working with you."

The crowd sang Addy's praises to high heavens. Tess was so furious when she saw this scene from Elena's office.

"Elena, Addy is a cunning man. I can't believe that the other employees are too blind to see that. He bought all of them over with his sweet talks." Tess stamped her feet in rage. She clenched her fists tightly. Her chest heaved as blood boiled in her veins.

Elena sighed deeply. She knew that Addy was cunning.

But there was nothing she could do.

Denis, Addy's father, had worked in the company for so many years. He had some loyal subordinates here.

In contrast, Adrien couldn't be of any help to Elena.

He never concerned himself with business. All he did was live off the already accrued wealth of the family.

Elena had joined the company only a few months ago. She had no supporters. Tess was the only one that was on her side.

Based on the result and immense support, it wasn't far-fetched to conclude that Addy would be the next president.

"Well, let's not talk about him. Thanks for your help so far. Even though you don't like Addy, you have to work with him in the future." Elena packed up her belongings in a box and looked back at the chair behind her.

She might never get to sit on this chair again. At the thought of this, she felt inexplicably sad.

"Elena, don't give up just yet. It's only six o'clock. You have six hours left before the competition ends!" Lyndon barged into the office and announced, out of breath. His face was pale and his hair was ruffled. He had clearly ridden his bike to the company again.

Tess flared up at the sight of him. "What's wrong with you these days? You say there's still time. But what have you done to help your fiancée? Nothing!

You'd better cover your face in shame. I wonder why you bothered to show up here now!"

Elena patted Tess on the shoulder, indicating for her to keep calm. She reasoned that it wasn't within Lyndon's power to help her. After all, he was facing enough difficulties at home.

Instead of getting angry, Lyndon smiled and said, "Tess, how are you so sure that I didn't help Elena?"

"Humph! You? What can you do for her? You can't even help yourself!" Tess said with contempt.

"Don't judge a book by its cover, Tess. It's wrong." Lyndon teased her.

"Spare me all that, Lyndon. You and I know that you are not educated. Why are you suddenly pretending to be an educated gentleman?" Lyndon's composure fanned Tess's anger. She moved closer and was about to give him a mouthful.

"Enough! Stop quarreling, you two!" Elena shouted at the top of her lungs, causing Tess to retreat.

Lyndon took the opportunity to say, "A construction company was established in Antpelle today. Its start-up capital is one billion dollars.

The company needs a building materials supplier that can deliver daily.

I got this exclusive information from my friend who works in the company. I think we should give it a try."

"What? The start-up capital is one billion dollars? It must be a big company. This could be the solution to our problems!" Tess got excited. Signing a contract with such a company was a big deal.

It would not only turn the tables for Elena, but also give her the right to say checkmate!

But Elena had already lost all the zest to fight. She shook her head and said, "Let's just go home. I'm tired."

All her efforts to win the competition had been in vain. She didn't want to try again.

Elena grabbed her bag and walked out of the office. Once she got to the parking lot, she entered her car and drove off.

Tess couldn't help but sigh as she watched her friend in that pitiful state.

"I don't know why God is so cruel to Elena that He sent a jinx like you her way!" Tess eyed Lyndon and left in anger.

Lyndon only smiled and shook his head. Like Elena, Tess was forthright, but she was a good person.

He wouldn't be so friendly with her if she wasn't.

Lyndon went straight to the hospital. As he had guessed, Elena was in a private ward. She sat at the bedside with a sad look on her face.

An old man with grey hair was lying in bed. He was Wilbert Collins, the founder of Hytai Industries and Elena's grandfather.

Wilbert, with the help of Eveline, had started a business from scratch. It took years of hard work and persistence for Hytai to become a household name. This was how Wilbert became rich and powerful.

But with old age came sickness and weakness. Now, he could only stay in the hospital and receive several medicines daily.

"Grandfather, what did I do wrong? I have failed you." Elena buried her face in her hands.

She had never slacked off for once in the past six months.

This was why she couldn't understand the clients' reasons for terminating the contracts all of a sudden.

Wilbert stroked her hair with his feeble hand and stammered, "Elena... You didn't do anything wrong."

"But my uncles and cousins are blaming me." Everyone in the extended family had ganged up against her. Now, she only had the support of her useless fiancé, who wasn't even regarded by anyone.

Wilbert coughed and his face turned pale immediately.

"Calm down, Grandpa."

"Don't give up, Elena. You can do this." Wilbert encouraged her.

All of a sudden, the door of the ward was pushed open. Addy strode in and said coldly, "I beat you hands down, Elena. You are not worthy of being the president. Don't tell me you came to beg Grandpa to allow you to keep the position. That's cheating!"

Addy eyed her and continued loudly, "Anyway, don't waste your time and energy. We had a deal. By twelve o'clock tonight, you will cease to be the president of Hytai!"

"Addy, this is a hospital. Grandpa needs to rest. Keep your voice down." Elena stood up and faced him.

She didn't care if Addy mocked her. She just didn't want him to disturb Wilbert.

"You are a sneaky girl, Elena. You want to take advantage of the fact that you are his favorite so you won't be relieved of that position. Dream on!" Addy sneered and glanced at Wilbert.

His grandfather's ill health was supposed to make him sad, but he seemed particularly pleased at the moment.

Lyndon had experienced a lot of things in Antpelle over the years. People could go to any lengths to gain power. As a result, he suspected that someone had a hand in Wilbert's ill health.

"Don't sling mud at me, Addy. I'm not as cunning as you. For your information, the battle is not over yet!" Elena retorted, pointing at him.

"Ha-ha! Wake up, cousin. The day will end in a few hours! Or you think you can get the newly established Hogan Company to sign a contract?

The owner of that company is a stubborn young man. You can't successfully convince him.

But he might just agree if you sleep with him. Can you do that?" Addy burst into laughter, ignoring the anger on Wilbert's face.

"Bastard!" Lyndon, who had been quiet, suddenly cursed. He couldn't tolerate Addy anymore as he had insulted Elena.

In a split second, he walked over and gave Addy a hard kick.

Addy fell to the floor immediately. It was so embarrassing for him.

"How dare you hit me?" He found it hard to believe that Lyndon, the pushover, who always swallowed all the insults, had dared to kick him to the floor.

What Addy didn't know was that Lyndon wasn't a pushover. He could overlook any insults to him, but he was ready to fight anyone that offended Elena.

Lyndon held Elena dear to his heart. He couldn't control his anger whenever anyone bullied her.

"Shut the fuck up! I'll cripple you if you ever disrespect Elena again!" A murderous glint sparkled in Lyndon's eyes. The sight of this made Addy quiver.

"You... You'll regret this. Just wait and see!" Addy got up and ran out in fear.

Elena's mouth was agape as she stared at Lyndon. What was wrong with him? How come he suddenly became so brave and manly? Did her eyes deceive her just now? She blinked in disbelief.
