Chapter 5 The Solitude

I feel that this story is taking a turn for the worst with every chapter, it has been a very sad beginning for me. But you have to understand that Don was my mate, he was my everything. He was supposed to be my ever after.

That was until the Gods decided to fuck with my life and screw me the hardest way possible by eliminating my one and only love. Yes, they were cruel in their own way.

But months after the tragedy, I was feeling better. I was functioning like a normal human being... most of the time.

Laurie would come and check up on me from time to time since I was no longer living with the pack. I had moved out permanently into my own house, a couple of days after they avenged Don's death.

I would see Grant and Grey every couple of weeks, for a gathering or pack meeting. I was moving on with my life, slowly... but I was coping and healing with the help of Laurie for the first month. Then I was doing it on my own, keeping myself busy with the coven and also the pack.

But since that last month, I was diving more into the coven's side, as I was trying to heal and put my heart back together and start accepting my solitary life.

Then three months after his death, out of nowhere Shani one of my witch friends called me up for a favor.

"Rain...I need your help, urgent. I know it has been a while but if you could come to my rescue I'd owe you." She said in her own sweet way.

We used to be very close, but we were both busy with our own thing. She was the one who pushes me to go out the night I met Don. Don...

It had been months, yet the hurt was still there. I haven't told her about my loss. I was keeping my solitude to myself, but I realized that I have to let her know. At some stage, I have to share my loss and poured my feelings all over again.

I arrived at her place in less than an hour, she was looking beautiful as always. She looked happier, her chocolate skin glows showing off her freckles as she greeted me with her cheeky smile.

She hugged me and welcomed me into her cozy little cottage home, but then she swiftly moves to another man's side.

Wait...when did she...

She rubbed his backside and kissed his jaw while whispering something to his ear. Then he pulled her in and kissed her hair.

"Shani? What the..." I was about to ask her when I saw a tall figure coming towards us.

He had the aura of greatness, I could see his majestic dark wings moves gracefully as he walked and presented me with his well define muscular upper body. His bottom half was covered with a black piece of cloth with an intricate design which I assumed wrapped his also muscular legs.

I have never seen a fallen angel before, and from what I've read and seen in my books he was definitely one. But his captivating aura, his fine-looking pants cloth, he looked gracefully royal.

I was captivated and quickly cleared my throat and close my mouth. But I was not ready when he pace his steps and grabbed my neck lifting me against the wall.

"You!" His deep dark voice threatened me.

I could see Shani struggled as her man hold her by the waist, and kept her still in front of him. He was whispering something in her ear as if he was trying to calm her down.

What the hell is going on?!

"I...I..." I was trying to let go of his strong grip on my neck, he was suffocating me, he was closing off my airway.

I can't breathe!

"You're the one who opened the portal and summoned them, why?!" He growled at me.

Oh, fuck!

I know opening the portal would have its consequences. But I didn't expect to drag Shani into this. I looked at her and decided to let it all out.

I have nothing to lose anymore. Maybe this is finally my time. Maybe I don't actually have to grow old in solitude.

Because honestly, I was dying already, I was trying so hard in keeping my sanity, overworking myself to exhaustion. But at the end of the day, I would be reminded of him. And that was when I crumble all over again.

"My mate...he...the beast killed him, " I said struggling while trying to breathe at the same time. I was seeing spots, my vision was getting blurry when he finally let me go and let me fall to the floor.

"Nooo...." I could hear Shani cry and saw her pacing herself quickly to me.

"Rain! Oh my god!" She hugged me as I slumped to my knees, and my body shook from the sheer intense sadness.

"Rain...why didn't you tell me..."

Shani rocked my body in her arms, she was comforting me until I finally calm down and told her everything.

I could see both of the men were watching us from afar, but I was actually disappointed that he didn't kill me. I sighed as I try to focus on Shani's words.

"...so, that's why I need you to help me to open the portal and literally go to hell with me. But now, I'm not...I don't think it's wise of me to ask such a tremendous favor in your time of mourning." She helped me up to my feet and ushered me to sit on the dining chair, while she took another chair and sit in front of me.

"Shani, I've been like a dead man walking already. I don't think there's anything more that could do me worse. I will do this, this is partly my fault in the first place. And the fallen angel was right, I'm at fault." I told her while roughly wiping my tears away.

I would still get torn every time I need to explain my situation. That's why I was liking my solitary life, where I didn't have to explain myself to anyone. And that I didn't have to look at their pity stares, and repeatedly hearing them say their condolences.

"Rain..." she was still hesitant.

"I'll do it, Shani." I hugged her back and, start emptying my satchel, and prepared all the necessary ingredients.

Maybe this is my fate. Maybe I'm supposed to help her. Maybe this will be my end.

Deep down I was truly hoping that the journey to hell would be it. I missed him, I honestly didn't know how long I could keep living my life like this.
