Rosalyn had been infatuated with Saul for four years before their three-year marriage.
Only now did she feel she truly understood him.
Saul was utterly heartless.
Any lingering hope she had for him shattered completely in that moment.
She suppressed her sorrow and forced a bright smile as she looked at him. "Fine. Let her move in."
She was ready to leave anyway. Whoever lived in this house no longer mattered to her.
Saul gave a soft hum and walked away.
At the same time, Rosalyn's phone pinged with a notification.
The subject line read, "Young Wealthy Ace Lawyer vs. Glamorous Mysterious Widow."
Below were photos of two people, only their backs visible. Rosalyn recognized them instantly.
It was Saul and Norene.
The accompanying text described Norene's identity. She had married a wealthy man abroad, but he was abusive.
Saul had taken her case, not only securing her divorce but also winning half of her ex-husband's fortune.
Rosalyn let out a cold laugh.
A month ago, Saul had mentioned going abroad for a case. He never said it was for Norene.
Saul hadn't studied law originally; his field was finance.
Three years ago, for reasons unknown, he switched careers. He studied relentlessly and earned his law license in just a year.
The next year, he became a legend in the legal world, dubbed the "Undefeated Lawyer."
Rosalyn had never understood why he changed paths until she asked him once.
He had stared out the window, his voice bitter. "For someone."
Back then, she didn't grasp what he meant. Now, it was crystal clear.
Suddenly, tears welled in Rosalyn's eyes as she laughed.
Even knowing Norene was married, Saul had tirelessly paved the way for her future.
Rosalyn murmured inwardly, "Fine, Saul. If you love her that much, I'll step aside."
That evening, Norene moved in, her belongings arriving box after box, as if she planned to stay for good.
Saul, who rarely came home, returned that night and even cooked a full spread of dishes himself.
Three months earlier, Saul, who had always avoided the kitchen, enrolled in a cooking class. Rosalyn had found it odd at the time.
Now she realized he had been preparing for Norene's return.
Seeing the man she loved for so long go to such lengths for another woman, Rosalyn's heart ached despite herself.
The staff offered to help, but Saul dismissed them, saying it wasn't needed.
A man once so particular about cleanliness was now cooking for love.
In that moment, Rosalyn saw how vast the difference was between being loved and unloved.
Soon, the meal was ready, and everyone sat down.
Norene, as always, kept serving Rosalyn food, acting like they were the closest of friends. "Rosalyn, Saul made all this. You probably don't get to enjoy his cooking often. You're lucky I'm here. Eat up!"
Norene wasn't even pretending anymore.
Rosalyn recalled their childhood. Norene often came over to play, but only when Saul was around.
She used to think Norene saw Saul as an older brother since she didn't have one.
Now Rosalyn realized how foolish she had been.
She pushed Norene's offerings away, keeping her tone barely polite. "Thanks, but no."
Norene's eyes welled up, her voice pitiful. "Rosalyn, are you upset? Do you not want me living here? I thought we were best friends. If you hate me, I'll move out tonight. But the lawsuit? I begged Saul to take it. If you're mad, blame me, not him."
Before Rosalyn could respond, Saul frowned and snapped, "Rosalyn, if you're upset, take it up with me. Norene's always seen you as her best friend. No need to give her attitude."
Best friend?
What kind of best friend tried to steal her husband?
Rosalyn was done arguing with them. She spoke calmly. "I'm allergic to fish. Did you forget?"
