Charles appeared with an icy and indifferent look, his usually immaculate suit now wrinkled and carrying a sour odor.
Lynda's first thought was whether he had been digging through trash bins.
Surprisingly, he had.
Charles extended his dirty hand, palm open, revealing the cufflink Lynda had just discarded. "Lynda, I picked it up for you. Don't be angry anymore."
It was rare for him to humble himself, yet his attitude was so matter-of-fact.
Why should Charles think that by simply humbling himself, she had to forgive him?
It was eternally impossible.
Lynda ignored him.
But Charles did not leave, watching her with a hopeful gaze. When he saw Lynda raise her hand, he breathed a sigh of relief, but the next moment, his pupils contracted in shock.
Lynda tossed the broken cufflink out the window into the artificial lake. "I don't want it."
Charles was taken aback, asking blankly, "What?"
Lynda repeated each word clearly, "I said, I don't want your things anymore."
And she didn't want him anymore.
Her words left him stunned for a long time.
Even as Lynda pushed him out of the room, Charles remained bewildered. She used to cherish his cufflink so much; how could she just decide not to want it anymore?
Earlier, when Lynda looked at him, it seemed like there was no trace of love in her eyes. Perhaps it was a misconception, but it felt like she didn't love him anymore.
Charles was dazed for a moment, then convinced himself that he was overthinking.
He knew how much Lynda loved him; she must still be sulking.
So, Charles gently knocked on the door, "Lynda, tomorrow I'll go with you to visit your dad."
After hearing his words, Lynda's alcohol-induced haze instantly cleared. In their eight years together, this was the first time he had spoken to her so gently.
Ironically, it happened when she no longer loved him.
It was truly unnecessary.
After all, they were getting divorced soon.
The next day, Lynda woke up to find the villa empty. The servant informed her that Eleanor had expressed a desire to see penguins, so Charles canceled all his work to accompany her to Gushuynia.
Lynda mocked her own sentimentality-fool enough to trust Charles' promises again.
Last night, he had said he would accompany her to visit her father, yet, as countless times before, he had just forgotten.
But soon, Lynda let go. She had long understood that Charles' choices never included her.
In the following half month, Lynda arranged permanent residency in Priyssau for herself and her father.
Her mother had once expressed a wish to settle in Priyssau, but she never lived to see that day.
Over the past eight years, although Charles did not love her, he was generous with money, and the funds Lynda had were enough to support her and Geffrey for the rest of their lives.
Lynda donated all her clothes to impoverished areas, knowing she couldn't take them with her.
Eleanor added Lynda using a secondary WhatsApp account and sent her numerous photos of herself with Charles every day, showing them hugging, kissing, and even in intimate moments.
Lynda took screenshots and saved them all; these would serve as evidence of Charles' marital infidelity in future court proceedings.
When the waiting period ended, Charles still hadn't returned.
Lynda went alone to collect the divorce decree, entrusting the staff to hand Charles' copy to him.
It was fine, just like this; they would never meet again.
Regrettably, Lynda didn't obtain solid recordings, but Eleanor's outrageous words and actions at the funeral of Lynda's mother were enough to have her sentenced for several years.
Lynda contacted the hospital, preparing to send Geffrey to Priyssau first. She intended to go there after the court proceedings.
Since Charles had used her father's life as a threat, she replaced the bodyguards with her own people to ensure her father's safety.
Just as she was about to call the bodyguards, the call from one of them came first, "Ms. Bennett, something terrible has happened! Your father's oxygen tube has been removed..."
The words hit Lynda like a bolt from the blue, leaving her stunned.
Arriving at the hospital corridor, Lynda heard Eleanor's arrogant voice, "Dispose of her dad's ashes! Not only did I kill her dad, but I'll also make sure Lynda never sees his ashes!"
Lynda felt a chill run through her entire body, rushing in to grab the urn and delivering a sharp, resounding slap across Eleanor's face.
Eleanor covered her face, her once beautiful features twisted in anger. "You dare hit me, you wretched woman? No one has ever dared to lay a hand on me!"
"Eleanor, hitting you is just the beginning. We will settle our scores one by one, and I will make you pay dearly for your actions!" Lynda warned.
Eleanor became even more arrogant, "With Charles' support, even if I accidentally kill your dad, or even you, nothing will happen to me."
The button camera on Lynda's chest recorded everything. At that moment, Charles entered, his voice cold, "What's going on?"
Eleanor cried and threw herself at him, "Charles, Lynda hit me..."
Seeing the handprint on her face, Charles' expression darkened, "Lynda, apologize!"
Lynda sneered, "Charles, aren't you going to ask why I hit her?"
"No matter the reason, you must apologize!" Charles shouted.
Lynda clutched the urn and turned to leave, determined to hand over the evidence to Terrance, ensuring Eleanor spent the rest of her life behind bars.
Charles was furious, "Lynda! If you don't apologize today, I'll divorce you!"
A hard slap landed on Charles' handsome face with the crisp sound, leaving him stunned.
Charles was incredulous; had Lynda gone mad? She was pregnant with his baby; could she really bear to divorce him?
But Lynda had already turned and left without a trace of hesitation.
The next moment, his phone rang. Without even looking, Charles answered, "Lynda, if you regret it, kneel and apologize..."
The voice of the court staff came through, "Mr. Watson, your divorce has been processed. When will you be available to collect your divorce decree?"
