"Hmm..." I nodded my head at his questions, not having enough energy to answer them. I am already exhausted from the stress of pretending to be getting married to my ex-fiancée's uncle out of love. This is my first time lying and acting at the same time. If not for Kai's assurance, I would have messed it up. Perhaps I almost did. "You can use my bathroom if you want to," his voice echoed the moment we returned to his private room. Without saying a word, I took off the wedding gown before removing the veil covering my hair. Having a lot on my mind, the wedding gown and his weight were the last things I could think of. I walked into the bathroom, putting on only my underwear. After taking everything off, I turned on the shower. As the water grazed against my skin, everything replayed in my head. Getting abandoned by the man I love, then marrying his uncle, and my first-ever kiss. I dreamt of having a passionate kiss on my wedding day-right on that altar, in front of everyone. But it turned out to be the opposite. Though the kiss wasn't bad. After I was done bathing, I wrapped the towel and hung it on the wall of the bathroom before walking into the main room. This time, Kai was half-naked, ready to take his bath. Even though I tried to take my eyes off him, I couldn't as I devoured the view of his chest down to his lower waist region. He looked too hot for his age. As if he knew I was watching him, he left for the bathroom, leaving me to my weird imagination. I changed into one of the dresses in the wardrobe. There were tons of female clothes in the wardrobe compared to the male clothes. Since I had no business with his private room, I decided not to ask. After all, we should respect each other's privacy. A few minutes after Kai left for the bathroom, he returned to the main room before dressing up. I made sure to resist the urge to look at him until he was done. "Let's go," he muttered, sounding commanding. Since I knew he was talking about going to the Lincoln Mansion, I walked out of the room alongside him. We got to the garage, then to the car, where a driver was waiting in the driver's seat. The moment we got in, the car started before driving off. While we were in the car, my phone beeped with Patricia's message, which read, "Are you okay?" I smiled faintly before texting her back. "I am fine. Besides, we're on our way to his house." "Why?" Patricia texted me again. "His father wants a clear explanation of everything," I replied, my finger almost numb as I texted back. "I know his father would act this way. He always finds everything about Kai questionable. Maybe because Kai was born out of wedlock." "Who are you texting?" My eyes blinked slowly as Kai's voice echoed. I expected him to pretend as if he didn't see me. After all, our marriage is strictly business. "Why do you want to know who I text? Aren't we supposed to respect each other's privacy?" I asked coldly, my gaze lowered. He chuckled at my words before saying, "Since that is the case, I hope you don't get mad at me if you see me making out with a lady." "I don't care what you do. As long as you don't go against the promise you made to me, we are cool," I informed him, sounding sincere even though I knew I couldn't do what I just said. Even though our marriage was only for twelve months, I wanted us to live as a real couple. I want to at least have a taste of what Elliot couldn't offer me. "We are here," his voice made me snap out of my thoughts. He got out of the car before opening the door for me. He took my hand after I got out of the car. As we walked into the building, which seemed to be different than what I imagined it would be, we met a strange man who had a striking resemblance to Elliot. If not for the slight height difference, I would have mistaken him for Elliot. "That is Carl. Elliot's brother," Kai whispered. "I thought as much. He is taller than Elliot," I whispered back before raising my gaze to meet Carl, who was now smiling. He walked up to us. "I am sorry, I did not come to your wedding. I thought since Elliot didn't show up, my dear sister-in-law's wedding would have been called off," he muttered, making fun of me. "Amy Reynold, what am I to call you now? Ex-sister-in-law? Or Aunt?" I ignored his question, about to leave the living room with Kai, but halted at Carl's words. "The maid said Elliot came home an hour ago." My mind stilled at his words, and before I could ask, Kai's voice echoed first. "Are you sure he came?" A dark smirk playing on the corner of his lip, he replied, "Have I ever lied to you before?" "You have lied to me several times," Kai paused. "I hope you are telling the truth this time." He turned to face me, whose face had already turned pale, and many thoughts clouded my mind. I don't know if it is hatred or the urge to meet him again... I just don't know what I am feeling.
