Chapter 5 A warm Dinner invitation

Emily made her way to the mansion's dining room, where Mrs. Thompson was waiting for her. The table was set with fine china and crystal glasses, and the aroma of a delicious meal filled the air. Mrs. Thompson smiled warmly as Emily took her seat.

As they began to eat, Mrs. Thompson asked her about her family and her life before coming to the city. She was hesitated at first, unsure of how much to reveal. But Mrs. Thompson's kind and gentle manner put her at ease, and she found herself opening up about her past.

Mrs. Thompson's eyes filled with concern as Emily shared her story. "What a girl of your age is doing roaming the streets all alone in a city where you know nobody?" she asked, her voice laced with worry. "Don't you have any family or friends who could take care of you?"

Emily took a deep breath and told Mrs. Thompson about her uncle's abuse, her decision to run away, and her struggles to make a new life for herself in the city. Mrs. Thompson listened attentively, her expression a mix of compassion and understanding.

As she finished her story, Mrs. Thompson reached out and took her hand. "You're a brave young woman, Emily," she said. "But you don't have to face everything alone. I'm here for you, and I'll do my best to help you get back on your feet."

Mrs. Thompson's expression turned thoughtful as she asked her about her plans. "Now, dear, what are your plans for the future?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with interest. "Do you have any goals or aspirations that you'd like to pursue?"

Emily's face lit up as she shared her dreams with Mrs. Thompson. "I've always wanted to attend university and get a good education," she said, her voice filled with determination. "I want to make something of myself and create a better life for myself."

Mrs. Thompson smiled, her face radiating warmth and encouragement. "That's a wonderful goal, Emily," she said. "I'm happy to support you in any way I can.

Mrs. Thompson's words filled her with hope and excitement. She felt like she had finally found someone who believed in her and was willing to help her achieve her goals. With Mrs. Thompson's support, Emily felt like anything was possible.

Emily's curiosity got the better of her, and she asked Mrs. Thompson, "Why are you living alone in this big mansion with helpers? Where are your children?" She couldn't help but wonder why someone with such a large and beautiful home would be living alone.

Mrs. Thompson laughed, a warm and joyful sound. "Ah, my children are all grown up and living abroad," she said. "They're pursuing their own careers and building their own lives. I'm proud of them, but I have to admit, I do miss them."

Mrs. Thompson's expression turned nostalgic, and she continued, "As for me, I decided to come back to my home country because I missed it dearly. I missed the culture, the food, and most of all, my old friends. I wanted to reconnect with my roots and spend my golden years in the place I love."

Emily could sense the pride and love Mrs. Thompson had for her home country. She admired her strength and independence, living alone in such a big mansion, yet still managing to stay connected to her community.

As they finished dinner, Emily instinctively began to clear the table and wash the plates. Mrs. Thompson smiled, appreciating her helpful nature. "Thank you, dear," she said. "You're a sweet girl."

As she was washing the dishes, Mrs. Thompson continued to talk about her children. "I have three kids, two girls and a boy," she said. "Amanda and Sophy are my daughters, and Leo is my son. They're all grown up now and living abroad."

Mrs. Thompson's face lit up as she shared stories about her children. "Amanda is a doctor, Sophy is a lawyer, and Leo is an engineer," she said proudly. "They're all doing well and making me proud."

Emily listened intently, and was fascinated by Mrs. Thompson's stories. She asked questions and showed genuine interest in getting to know more about Mrs. Thompson's family.

As they chatted, she felt a warm bond forming between her and Mrs. Thompson. She appreciated the older woman's kindness and generosity, and she felt grateful to have her in her life.
