An emergency board meeting was already in place, which I quickly joined in the board room where it was taking place. Emergency board meetings were usually called for during a crisis. My heart started racing as to what the issue could be as I held my father's furious gaze.
Could it be that he found out about my one-night stand with Zaden already? After all, it happened at his birthday party. My heart was racing, I didn't like being in the unknown one bit.
My father's secretary passed around some documents. When I glanced down at it. My eyes opened in shock. It was an official document authorizing the transfer of more than ten million dollars from the company's account to mine, complete with my signature confirming approval.
I looked up and met my father's eyes-his brows were furrowed, lips pressed into a thin line, and the weight of his disappointment hit me harder than any words could.
He couldn't believe I actually did it, would he? He has known me my whole life and knows I have no motive for such.
My father finally spoke, breaking the uncomfortable silence in the boardroom. All the board members were now staring, some with malicious looks on their faces, while others held disappointed looks with their shoulders low.
"As we can see from the documents placed in front of us, some company funds have been embezzled under the guise of false approval from the board with a signature from Miss Mila....... She will be suspended indefinitely until further investigations are carried out to find out the sole purpose of the transaction and the board comes to a conclusion on what to do with Miss Mila".
Tears pooled in my eyes, threatening to fall down my cheeks. I looked at my father, who could not hold my gaze. I looked at him in disbelief at the words coming out of his mouth. He should be investigating the actual person behind this, not suspending me.
"I didn't do it!". I finally spoke with newfound courage.
"The signature was forged, I didn't authorize such a transaction".
"Well, Miss Mila. It's not just about the signature. The destination account is also yours. So how do you explain that?" Another board member spoke with a smirk on his lips.
I quickly glanced at the other page. This was wrong. How did I not get a notification from my bank?
"We had already contacted your account officer and he confirmed the exact amount was transferred to the account. You see, Miss Mila doesn't look good at all". The board member continued.
My Chest was so tight and my heart was beating so hard as though it wanted to leave my ribcage. I got in my car gripping the steering wheel. As anger seeped through me. I was so disappointed that my father and even the board members actually believed I was the one responsible.
I started my car. I needed to visit my account officer to see things for myself and know why I didn't even receive a notification.
Tears had already pooled in my eyes as my mind started recalling the whole events from these past days. I was so heartbroken at how life had decided to deal so badly with me in just a few days.
I wiped my tears with the back of my hand, and when I looked up, I realized I had nearly missed my turn. In my panic, I forgot to check for oncoming cars and quickly swerved into the next lane. That's when I heard the crash-then everything went black.
The first thing I felt was the ache-dull, heavy, everywhere. My eyelids fluttered, slow and reluctant. Everything was blurry at first, the steady beep of a monitor was the next thing I registered, followed by the sting in my throat and the tightness in my chest.
"Miss Mila, how do you feel? Do you know who you are? Can you tell me your name? Please squeeze my hand if you can". A lady in scrubs and a white ward coat said with a glint in her eyes.
I presumed she was a doctor and I was in the hospital.
"I feel pain all over. I am Mila Grayson", and I squeezed her hand gently, following her instructions.
"What happened?" I asked with a groan.
"You were involved in an accident, and you have been in a coma for three weeks".
"Three weeks?" I asked with surprise in my voice.
The doctor just nodded and said;
"If you are worried about the baby, the baby is fine and really strong". She said with a proud smile.
Just as I was about to be sure I heard correctly another voice that wasn't mine said from the door.
"Did you say Baby?"
"Yes, sir, congratulations?" The doctor said gleaming.
That was when I turned to see whose voice it was and I met those same icy blue eyes. What was he doing here? I asked myself in full surprise.
"Doctor if I may ask?" How many weeks is the baby? I was still shocked.
"Same three weeks. We discovered you were pregnant one week into your coma. We figured that was why you were in a coma, because of the stress your body was under".
Me and my ex-boyfriend Felix had not had sex in the past month. Which meant the father of the baby was the one who was now staring at me with those blue eyes. But he didn't need to know that.
"Doctor, I would like an abortion". I said with a sad tone.
There was no way I was going to keep a baby for a man who can't even stand me. Besides with everything going on, having a baby isn't the best option for me right now.
"No, you won't". The same cold voice spoke again as I raised my eyes to meet his. Could he have known the baby was his? I thought to myself.
"I would give you both a moment to speak". The doctor said as she left us alone in the room.
