Since William had asked, Jeanne found it hard to refuse. About 30 minutes later, the three arrived at the Paulaner restaurant.
Paulaner is a uniquely designed English restaurant with beautiful garden views and a refined atmosphere. It features an antique-decorated VIP room that blends classic and luxurious styles. It's a favorite spot for noble families, the wealthy, and the powerful to gather and hold parties.
The food is prepared by international chefs, and reservations must be made at least three months in advance.
Jeanne had heard of this place but was visiting for the first time. Her heart felt a bit heavy.
Alexa led the way confidently, as if she had been there many times. She laughed lightly while talking to William. "It's been a year since William came home. You must really miss this place, especially since we used to eat here often."
William replied without thinking, "It's just a place to eat. What's there to miss?" Alexa had hoped to use this chance to show off her closeness to William and provoke Jeanne, but William's comment ruined her plan.
For a moment, Alexa's face lost its composure. She forced a laugh and said, "That's true, there are many places to eat abroad. But this time, William must try the new dishes by the new chef here. He'll definitely like them."
As they chatted, they reached their seats. The tables were separated by screens and large enough for seven or eight people, but only the three of them sat there.
After sitting, a waiter came to take orders. Alexa immediately ordered many side dishes without asking. Jeanne quietly looked at the menu. Seeing the prices quickly reach tens of millions, mixed feelings stirred inside her.
This is the world of the rich! One meal could cost as much as Jeanne spent months ago. She felt annoyed but stayed calm. In the end, she didn't order anything and handed the menu to William. "You order."
Before William could speak, Alexa said, "I've already ordered all the dishes William likes. I even added some new ones. Miss Jeanne must try them properly-it will be hard for her to come here again!"
Jeanne understood Alexa's meaning: she was showing how well she knew William.
Jeanne felt a bit annoyed but kept her expression steady. "Miss Alexa is very thoughtful. William is lucky to have a sister like you." Alexa's pride turned to irritation at the word "sister." She hated being called that since they weren't blood-related.
This damn Jessy is not easy to deal with! Alexa clenched her teeth, eyes cold. No matter what, she would expose Jeanne's true nature in front of William today.
Their orders arrived quickly. Alexa eagerly introduced the restaurant's specialties. Jeanne stayed silent, eating quietly. Midway, she tried a piece of steamed fish. It was tasty. She also took a piece for William, playing her part as a "wife."
"This doesn't taste too strong. The fishy smell is well-handled. Try it," Jeanne said, pausing with raised eyebrows. Alexa's face lit up with joy, expecting William to reject the fish since he was very picky about cleanliness-especially about chopsticks touched by others.
But William surprised her. Instead of throwing the bowl away, he slowly picked up a piece of fish and ate it. Alexa was stunned, dropping her chopsticks. Jeanne looked at Alexa, confused by her reaction. William kept eating as if nothing happened.
Alexa clenched her fists silently, fuming. She called Jeanne a cheap woman in her heart but buried her anger.
Her gaze shifted to the restaurant entrance. A well-dressed man walked in. Handsome and elegant, his eyes held a hint of mischief.
Alexa's lips curled into a smile as she looked at Jeanne, silently daring her to handle this.
The man approached them and spoke to Jeanne, surprised, "Jessy, what a coincidence to meet you here." Jeanne fell silent, then recognized him.
He was Gregor, a young man from the Gregor family. He was known for laziness and frequenting entertainment spots. Jeanne knew he was one of the bad friends Jessy hung out with.
Jeanne hadn't expected to see him here and hesitated before answering, "Eh, yeah, what a coincidence."
Gregor didn't notice anything odd. He laughed, putting his hand on Jeanne's shoulder. "How about going for a walk tonight? I just got a letter about some great alcohol. You'll love it. We can drink until we're drunk."
Jeanne slapped his hand away, saying, "Please act normal!" Gregor looked shocked. "What's wrong with you? You're usually quiet and never say this. Are you sick?" He reached to touch her forehead.
Suddenly, his hand was grabbed and twisted behind his back with a loud crack. Gregor screamed in pain and shouted, "WHO THE FUCK?"
It happened too fast for him to react. Jeanne saw it was William's hand.
William, cold-faced and calm, held Gregor down. His eyes were icy. "If you touch her again, it won't just be a bone moving. I'll break your hand," he warned, then pushed Gregor hard. Gregor fell face-first to the floor.
At that moment, Gregor realized who William was-the powerful heir controlling much of the city's economy.
Cold sweat poured down Gregor's face. Thinking about touching Jessy in front of William made his heart race. "Director, I'm sorry. It was a misunderstanding. I was just joking with Jessy..."
His words only made things worse. Jeanne clenched her teeth, wanting to shut Gregor up. William looked at Gregor with hate. "One minute to get out of my sight."
Terrified, Gregor scrambled up and fled. The air felt tense. Jeanne dared not breathe or move, afraid William might suddenly explode.
Alexa felt happy and relieved. She had finally shown William Jessy's true face. She had smartly called Gregor here.
Alexa was sure William would never be fooled by Jessy again. To prove her point, William's cold gaze landed on Jeanne. "Jessy, I don't care how you behaved outside before. Now that I'm home, you must follow the rules. Know who you can socialize with and who you can't. Don't mess around with nobodies and damage the William family name. I hope today's incident won't happen again."
Without another word, William left with no expression.
Alexa quickly grabbed her bag. "William, wait!" She rushed to catch up, passing Jeanne with a proud smile.
Jeanne sighed deeply, never expecting Gregor's arrival would ruin things so badly.
