Chapter 3 They. Must pay

KATHRYN'S POV

I felt a rush of excitement as everything began falling into place just the way I planned. My heart raced with anticipation as I headed toward the clinic. I could still hear Selena's cries, begging for Kingsley to save her, but I ignored them. Instead, I let myself enjoy the wicked satisfaction I got from what I was about to do.

"Miss Kathryn Saunders, welcome," the doctor greeted politely, having no idea what I was really up to.

"Thank you. She's here as instructed by the CEO," I replied coldly, making sure to sound in control. I was about to become the CEO's fiance, and I wanted her to feel my authority.

"Very well. I'll start preparing for the procedure," she replied, unknowingly stepping right into my trap.

I stopped her. "You will speak to me with respect. I am the future fiance of Mr. Harrison. Address me as such."

She blinked in surprise but kept her voice steady. "Of course. How may I assist you, Miss Saunders?"

"I need more than just your usual duties," I said firmly. "If you disobey me, the consequences will be severe. Do you understand?"

I stepped closer and told her exactly what I needed her to do. Her eyes widened in horror. She tried to protest, but one sharp look from me shut her up quickly.

"If you're scared of getting caught, don't be. I will be the fiance in just four days," I said, trying to ease her fear or use it against her.

Still, she refused. "I'm sorry. I can't do what you're asking."

Her courage amused me.

"Tyler," I said softly, watching her carefully. "He's your grandson, isn't he?"

Her eyes widened, and I knew I'd found her weak spot. "Is he?"

"Yes... yes, he is," she admitted, her voice shaking.

I smiled slowly. "Such a sweet little boy. It would be a real tragedy if something bad happened to him, don't you think?"

"No, please. Don't hurt him. I'll do it," she begged, tears filling her eyes.

I felt victorious. "That's better. Family should be protected, right?" I said, pretending to care. "Now get to work."

I walked out of the office with a smile on my face. My guards followed closely behind, ready to carry out the next part of my plan.

"Should we head home now, Miss Saunders?" one of the guards, Sam, asked. "It's getting very dark outside."

I looked up and saw that night had already fallen. "Yes, Sam. Let's go. Everything is going just as it should."

SELENA'S POV

As the fog in my mind began to clear, panic quickly took its place. It felt like a heavy weight was holding me down, making it hard to breathe and move. I tried to shift my body, to say something, or even to scream, but nothing happened. A wave of fear washed over me as I realized I had no control over anything.

Then, the clinic doctor walked in, and a small flicker of hope ignited within me. Maybe she could help me.

"Please," I whispered, my voice so weak it barely came out. "Please help me save my baby."

She looked at me, and I noticed a hint of uncertainty in her eyes. Just maybe, she would choose to help me.

"Thank you," I said, trying my best to smile despite the pain that overwhelmed me. "I knew you still had kindness inside you."

But my heart sank when I saw her reach for a syringe, moving closer to me with it.

"What... what is that?" I asked, my voice shaking and filled with fear.

"It's just a sedative," she replied matter-of-factly, as if those words would make everything okay.

"No, please. Don't do this," I pleaded, my desperation growing louder. "This baby is innocent. He deserves a chance to live."

She hesitated for a moment, and I could see a flicker of guilt in her eyes. For just a brief second, I thought that maybe she would reconsider what she was about to do.

But she didn't. She pressed the syringe into my arm, and fear surged through my entire body.

"Please," I begged again, my voice breaking. "Stop! Don't do this to my baby!" A wave of helplessness washed over me, and I felt tears fill my eyes as I realized how much I was fighting for something so precious.

---

I didn't know how long I was out. When I woke up, I felt dizzy, my stomach turning. The room spun around me, and I couldn't focus. My body was in pain, sharp and constant.

I looked around and realized I was still in the clinic room. My hands were tied with cold metal cuffs. I tried to sit up, but a burning pain shot through my side, and I screamed.

"Why am I still tied up?" I cried. "What have you done to me?"

The doctor stood nearby, her face unreadable. "The sedative had a strong anesthetic in it," she said quietly.

"Anesthetic?" I gasped. "That could have killed me... Why would you use that if the goal was just to end the pregnancy?"

I was terrified. Was this their way of killing me?

"They made me do it," she whispered. "I didn't want to. They threatened my family."

My body shook with pain, and I could see bruises under my skin, a cruel reminder of what they'd done.

"They wanted me dead... didn't they?" I said, more to myself than her.

"Kingsley... he sent you, right?" I asked, heartbroken. "How could he do this to me?"

"I didn't want to hurt you," the doctor said again. "They threatened my grandson. I'm so sorry."

Through the pain, one thought kept returning"Kingsley. I tried reaching him through our phone, but there was only silence.

"He blocked me," I whispered. "He doesn't even want to hear me."

Tears poured down my cheeks. The pain, the betraya, it was too much.

"I would never betray him," I sobbed. "I thought he knew that."

But he was gone. And I was left here, dying.

"I swear," I cried, voice hoarse with pain. "If I make it out of here, I will make them pay."

As darkness wrapped around me again, I swore one last time if I had to fight from the other side, I would. I wouldn't rest until every last one of them faced the pain they caused me.
