Chapter 4 Reveal

Alina's POV

She led me to where the wolves were gathered before bidding me goodbye. I stood there, staring at them-ten in total. My father had arranged this so I wouldn't be lonely, but honestly, it was pathetic. Either way, this would be my last day with them, so I might as well enjoy it.

We headed into the forest, a particular one I loved. At its heart lay a maze-like layout, making it perfect for the game I had in mind.

I glanced at Kieran. At just nineteen, he was already towering over me.

"Last day, huh?" Kieran murmured, his gaze lingering on a particular girl in the group. His voice was barely above a whisper.

"Finally free to explore," I replied with a light chuckle. "I know you all had better things to do, but thanks for keeping me company all these years."

"Don't go getting sentimental on me," he said, narrowing his eyes before taking a deep breath and shutting them.

"Even if you only joined because of a certain someone," I teased, calling the rest of the group over. My father had arranged for a group of wolves to accompany me at times. Maybe he did it out of goodwill, but it never changed the fact that I was lonely.

"We're going to play a game today," I announced, scanning their faces. "Split into two equal teams. We're playing 'Hunters and Prey.' If the hunters capture every prey, they win. If the prey capture all the hunters, then they win."

The game began in the maze. I perched on a sturdy branch high above, watching them. From here, I had a great view point, but there were areas beyond my sight, I watched as the game started, a little smile tugged on my lips cause I know Kieran might get a fix trying to catch his special someone

---

I heard a loud scream coming from the forest, the voice-it belonged to Selene.

I leapt down from my perch and sprinted into the maze, meeting Kieran halfway. His face was twisted with panic.

"I can't find her," he said breathlessly. "I was tracking her scream, but it just-stopped."

"We can still follow her scent," I said.

Our groups had masked their scents for the game, to avoid being tracked, but a faint trace remained. We followed it, weaving through the maze until we skidded to a stop at the sight before us.

Three members of the prey team lay on the ground, battered and bloodied. And a massive brown wolf stood over a vampire's lifeless body, its fangs still buried deep in its neck.

A fucking vampire. In our territory. How the hell was this happening?

My gaze darted around. Two more vampires lay dead, their black blood soaking into the earth. Then, the brown wolf collapsed, shifting back into Selene's unconscious form.

She had finally shifted. I stood transfixed staring at her, her wolf was mesmerizing

Kieran was at her side in an instant, pulling off his shirt to cover her before scooping her into his arms.

"The game's over," I announced, though no one needed to be told. There was no way we could continue after this.

"Vampires infiltrated the pack. They attacked our wolves," I mind-linked my father, staring at the wounded wolves
