Chapter 4 Be The Escort

Thinking of Cole, she couldn't help but recall what had happened last night. Her face turned bright red; he was really... fierce and skilled, just as Cathy had said. These rich boys have all sorts of tricks.

But that's it, just this once. She had already completed her first task, and she probably wouldn't see him again. After Anne finished her bath and got dressed, she found that he knew exactly what kind of clothes to buy for her.

This dress had a half-high collar that covered the mark on her neck. She let out a sigh of relief. Otherwise, she wouldn't know how to explain it when she went to see Grandma Mary later.

When she arrived at the hospital, Grandma Mary was awake. After her surgery, her condition had improved quite a bit. Seeing Anne, she said with a bit of reproach, "Didn't I tell you not to keep running here? You're delaying your work. I'm almost fine now."

"Don't worry, Grandma. It's not a problem." Anne smiled as she put down the fruit she was holding and began slowly peeling an apple.

"Ah, it's all because of this old woman that I'm causing you trouble." Grandma Mary took Anne's hand. She knew her son and daughter-in-law didn't want to bear the cost of her surgery, but she couldn't blame them. After all, 800,000 was too much for their family. Even if they sold the house, they wouldn't be able to gather enough.

When the hospital arranged for her surgery, she was quite surprised. Anne told her that the fees had already been paid, and she was worried about how Anne managed to get the money. Anne said she had found a job, and the boss, understanding her situation, advanced her some money.

However, she had signed a ten-year contract with the company, with deductions from her monthly salary. Grandma Mary felt guilty that she had forced Anne into signing what seemed like a "contract of servitude." She had originally refused to have the surgery, but Anne had begged her to do it so that she could stay with her for a few more years. Without Grandma Mary, Anne didn't know what she would do in the future. That was when Grandma Mary agreed to the surgery.

"What are you saying, Grandma? You're doing better now, and that's all that matters." Anne held Grandma Mary's hand in return, offering comfort.

Though Grandma Mary had successfully undergone the surgery, her age still took a toll on her, and she soon fell asleep again. Anne tucked her in, gave a few instructions to the caregiver, and then left.

She needed to find a job and couldn't afford to stay in the hospital all day taking care of Grandma Mary, so she hired a caregiver at 200 a day, which was not a small amount for her. She had an interview in the afternoon, and it was an important one.

Just as she was leaving the ward, she bumped into Grandma Mary's attending physician, Dr. Adam. He called her into his office and said, "Your grandmother is recovering well after surgery, but she's still old, and she has high blood pressure and diabetes. While these issues aren't extremely problematic, they still need to be managed."

"Alright, Dr. Adam. What else should I pay attention to? I'll make sure to note it down." Anne took out her notebook and started jotting it down.

After explaining everything, Dr. Adam smiled and said, "Looks like you've found a decent job. I remember this dress is from C&Y's latest collection, right? It costs several thousand. You must have really splurged on it."

Anne paused with the notebook in her hand. She didn't realize the dress was so expensive and felt a little regretful. She lowered her head and replied, "Dr. Adam, you're joking. I bought this on Amazon for only a couple hundred. When you start working, you need to dress a bit more appropriately."

Dr. Adam didn't say anything more. He wasn't blind-he could tell whether it was an authentic or replica piece. He had seen this dress when he went shopping with his sister, but he didn't expose Anne.

When Anne first came up with 800,000 for the surgery, Dr. Adam was surprised. Prepaid salary and a ten-year contract? Maybe she could fool Grandma Mary, but not him. Still, it was her private matter.

He wasn't one to meddle in others' business. As a doctor, he frequently saw life and death, with many patients giving up treatment because they couldn't afford the surgery fees.

At first, Dr. Adam thought Anne might give up like Grandma Mary's son did. But she didn't. She just begged the hospital not to give up, promising she would find a way to raise the money. And she did. How she managed to get the money, however, was none of his business.

Seeing that Dr. Adam didn't say anything else, Anne stood up, said goodbye, and quickly left. She still had to rush to her interview. After leaving the hospital, she looked at her clothes and decided to go back to her rented apartment to change first. Dr. Adam had seen through her trick with the dress, and she didn't want to wear it out in public.

After changing, she rushed to the Global Group for her interview. She arrived just in time as it was starting. She quickly sat in the waiting area. She had gotten the interview at Global Group through a recommendation from her mentor.

With her academic performance, she could have continued her graduate studies, and she even had a guaranteed spot. However, she had given it up for Grandma Mary. Her mentor was disappointed but couldn't do anything about it.

Once Grandma Mary's surgery was done, Anne had already missed the best time for internship and job hunting. Her mentor, who had previously collaborated with Global Group, didn't want to see her go elsewhere, so he pulled some strings and recommended her to them.

Global Construction Group was a well-known architectural firm, headquartered in Chicago. For architecture students like Anne, Global was one of the top three companies to join.

It wasn't just the company's reputation but also the good benefits they offered. The interview went smoothly. Since Anne was directly recommended by her mentor, Global Group trusted her mentor's judgment more than her ability. Her mentor rarely recommended anyone, but the people she had recommended in the past had all been excellent.

The contract was signed. Today was Friday, and Anne would start as an intern assistant next Monday. The salary wasn't very high-3,500 a month, with some extra allowances bringing it to about 5,000 a month.

After the internship period, her salary could increase to 6,000 or 7,000, which was already a good deal for her.

As she walked, Anne calculated how long it would take her to pay off the remaining debt with her salary and the money she earned at Blue Sea Gulf. Cathy had called her and asked her to come over in the evening for a meeting. After some hesitation, Anne agreed.

For now, she had no choice. Since the first time was already done, she could still accept the occasional drinking session.

When Anne arrived, Cathy handed her a dress. Looking at it, Anne hesitated. "Cathy, this dress... it's even shorter than yesterday's?"
