Chapter 2 The wave

Vassa's POV

"This or that?" I asked, raising the limited-edition Sunshine Dior bag and Short Cake Luiviton purse above my head.

Peter eye locked onto the yellow Dior bag and he nodded."

"You okay?" I asked,my voice laced with concern, noticing his gloomy expression.

"Office troubles?"

Peter shook his head. "Just a little trouble here and there. I'll figure it out."he replied his tone hesitant.

Tick! Tick! Notifications,Peter raced off to pick up his phone He paused, and I sensed hesitation.

"Honey,Amanda is back! I would be meeting her after work today. I might be late." I added.

His eyes narrowed. "Amanda is ba-ck?" Peter stalled, avoiding eye contact.

"Yes, Amanda. Is everything fine babe? I felt a pang of unease as I noticed peter's pale face.

Peter planted a kiss on my forehead. "Have fun with Amanda, okay? Love you."

"Love you too, baby," I replied, heading out.

***

I approached ethan with a smile.

"Hey ethan, perfect timing!,I'm meeting Amanda in a few minutes. Want to be my driver?"

He chuckled ."The pleasure's all mine."taking a low bow. Ethan picked up my bag, heading for the car.

* * *

Amanda screamed, waving her hand excitedly. She had a way of looking stunning without even trying, and every color seemed to complement her skin perfectly.

Today was no exception, she looked absolutely radiant.

"Girl, you look hot!" I exclaimed. Hotter than I remember.

Amanda smiled slyly. "Not as hot as you are."

We shared a warm hug as we sat down. Girl it been, six? Seven years? I am so excited to see you again

"How's Jason?" I asked. Amanda rolled her eyes. "Oh, Jason's still trying to figure out how to tap into my sanity secrets."

I chuckled. "If he doesn't drain you, who will? I can't wait to meet him I said excitedly."

Amanda laughed. "And how's Peter?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well, Peter's fine," I replied, "except he's been acting strange lately....

"Strangely?" Amanda asked, her voice tinged with surprise.

"Yeah," I replied. "Today, I mentioned you being back and us hanging out, and he suddenly turned pale.

He's been walking on eggshells around me lately, and then this late night bathroom calls".

Amanda's eyes narrowed. "That does sound weird. What's going on with him?" Amanda's eyes sparkled with curiosity.

"And did you ask him what's wrong?" I shook my head.

"No, I didn't. I didn't want to push him. But it's been bothering me all day."

Amanda leaned in, her voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "I think I know what might be going on."

My eyes widened, intrigued. "What?" Amanda hesitated, glancing around the room before focusing on me again.

"I saw Peter with someone yesterday,I am certain he wouldn't tell you .... with someone who looked unfamiliar."

My heart skipped a beat. "Who?" Amanda's voice dropped to a whisper. "Amanda. I heard him call her,Yes, I know, same name, but this Amanda was... different. She was tall, blonde, and had this confident air about her."

I felt a pang of unease. "What were they doing?" Amanda's eyes locked onto mine.

"They were laughing and talking, very cozy. I didn't think much of it at first, but now that you mention Peter's been acting strange..."

My mind was racing,i remembered on several occasions Peter had quietly left my side to take his calls in the bathroom in odd hours, but I didn't think much of it until now .

Who is this Amanda, and what did she have to do with Peter's sudden change in behavior? Suddenly, my phone buzzed. I glanced at the screen, and my heart skipped a beat. It was a text from Peter:

"Hey, babe. Just wanted to check in. Everything okay?"

I looked up at Amanda, my eyes searching for answers. What was going on with Peter, and what did this mysterious Amanda have to do with it?

Amanda's eyes widened as she read the text over my shoulder. "What are you going to say?" she whispered.

I hesitated, unsure of how to respond. Part of me wanted to confront Peter about Amanda's revelation, but another part of me didn't want to jump to conclusions. "I'll play it cool," I decided, typing out a casual response.

"Hey, babe. Yeah, everything's fine. Just hanging out with Amanda.

We both sat in silence, waiting for Peter's response. The tension was palpable, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. Finally, my phone buzzed again. I glanced at the screen, my eyes scanning the message. Peter's response was brief:

"Good. Be careful. Love you."

Amanda frowned. "That sounds suspicious. What do you think he's hiding?"

I bit my lip, trying to decipher Peter's cryptic message. "I don't know, but I'm going to find out," I said, determination etched My heart sank as I realized the truth.

Peter was indeed hiding something from me, and it had everything to do with this mysterious Amanda.

"I would suggest you do not ask peter about this,to avoid him playing the guilty card instead embrace the law of detachment and move on with your life, men are not to be trusted.

Jason's father did the same to me he promised me the world and some sly bitch is married to him thinking she has found the perfect match Amanda said angrily. "

I nodded slowly, taking in Amanda's words. She had a point, confronting Peter might not yield the truth, and it could even lead to more lies and manipulation.

As I thought about it, I realized that Amanda's advice was rooted in her own experiences.

She had been hurt before, and she didn't want me to go through the same pain. "You're right," I said finally, a sense of resolve washing over me. "I don't need to confront him. I deserve better than someone who would lie to me and flirt with other women behind my back."

Amanda's expression softened, and she put a hand on my arm. "Exactly, Vassa. You deserve so much better. Let's focus on moving forward, not getting stuck in the past."

I took a deep breath, feeling a sense of liberation wash over me. It was time to focus on myself and my own happiness, even though I want to confront Peter badly.

"Let's do it," I said, smiling at Amanda. "Let's move on and find our own happiness."

Amanda grinned, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "That's the spirit, Vassa! We'll focus on ourselves and our own happiness. No more wasting time on men who don't deserve us." We clinked our glasses together in a toast to our newfound independence.

As we sipped our drinks, I felt a sense of empowerment wash over me. I was taking control of my life, and I was doing it with my best friend by my side. The rest of the evening was a blur of laughter, music, and dancing.

We let loose and had the time of our lives, not worrying about what Peter or any other man thought.

As the night drew to a close, Amanda and I hugged each other tightly. "Thank you for being here for me," I said, my voice filled with gratitude. Amanda smiled. "Anytime, Vassa. We're in this together, always."

I nodded, feeling a sense of peace wash over me. I knew that no matter what lay ahead, I had Amanda by my side, and together, we could face anything.

Getting home,Peter was sitted on the couch,he seem terrified as I walked in Babe? Are you owk? I couldn't sleep, how is Amanda? I smiled coyly, your Amanda must be doing very well I guess Peter looked lost in denial, what do you mean my Amanda babe?

"See Shhhhhhsh I am not in the mood for any conversations tonight, goodnight." I stormed out of the room we both shared entering into the spare room we barely used.

I slammed the door shut behind me, feeling a sense of satisfaction at leaving Peter looking confused and worried. I knew he was trying to play dumb, but I wasn't having it.

As I lay down on the bed, I couldn't help but feel a sense of empowerment. I had taken control of the situation, and I had made it clear that I wasn't going to tolerate his lies and deceit. I closed my eyes, feeling a sense of calm wash over me.

I knew that this was just the beginning of a new chapter in my life, one where I would prioritize my own happiness and well-being.

As I drifted off to sleep, I could hear Peter's faint knocking on the door, his whispers of "babe, please open up." But I ignored him, knowing that I deserved better than someone who would lie to me and betray my trust.

The spare room, once a symbol of our guest space, had become my sanctuary.
