Chapter 6 Why Did He Do This To Me

Why would Dean go that far?

Elin's parents had always treated him like a son, lavishing on him all the privileges of family, except for one: control over the formidable Infinity Group.

Yet, despite their generosity, he murdered them ruthlessly. Why?

Dean's fingers were ice as they clamped around Camila's chin, his eyes piercing. "Why did Edmund switch rooms all of a sudden? And who was that man leaving Room 2588 that morning?"

"I haven't discovered anything yet," Camila murmured, her voice strained under the pressure of his unyielding grip. She leaned in, her lips seeking his in a desperate attempt to soften his wrath. "It doesn't matter who it was. You're free of her now. Elin has nothing left but a dying grandmother. Isn't that victory enough for you?"

But as Dean's mind replayed the image of Elin, drenched and kneeling in the relentless rain, defeated and broken, a surge of inexplicable irritation flooded him.

"Yeah, right," he scoffed, his sarcasm as sharp as a knife's edge. With a swift motion, he tossed Camila onto the bed, pinning her firmly beneath him.

The ruin of the Walsh family was exactly what they had coming.

He was not wreaking havoc; he was merely taking back what he believed was rightfully his.

"Dean, be gentler..." Camila murmured, her fingers nimble as they unbuttoned his shirt, her remarks tinged with playful seduction.

Before long, the air was thick with breathless moans and heated whispers.

From the shadows, Elin watched, her body quivering as if she were submerged in an icy abyss.

The truth dawned on her with brutal clarity: this was all Dean and Camila's doing-a meticulously crafted scheme. Those reporters, the purveyors of her supposed scandal, were likely Dean's pawns, all part of his plan to strip her of everything through their divorce.

"Why..." Elin's voice trembled, saturated with a raw, bitter edge as she gazed up at Ruben who had become her pillar. "Why did he do this to me?"

With her parents gone, Dean was all she had-her partner and her only source of support.

But he had fucked her over, making her look like a complete idiot!

Before Ruben could muster a response, the chill of the relentless rain and the piercing scenes flashing on the screen proved too much for Elin. Her strength faded away, and she collapsed into unconsciousness.

Ruben's expression turned grim, shadows flickering across his features as he smoothly scooped her up, cradling her with a practiced ease.

"Call Jeffrey," he commanded, his voice a low rumble.

"Understood."

Ruben brought Elin to the exclusive Sereville, a high-end neighborhood right in the city's core.

As they crossed the doorway, a young man in a crisp white coat rose from the plush sofa, his posture stiffening. He greeted him with a nod. "Ruben."

"Hmm," Ruben grunted, barely pausing as he ascended the stairs with Elin in his arms, where he entrusted her to the capable hands of Jeffrey Burton for medical attention.

Downstairs, Ruben paced, a cigarette smoldering between his fingers.

Roughly thirty minutes later, Jeffrey went downstairs, a look of mild astonishment on his face. "It's remarkable, Ruben. You've run into her. She's the same woman from the scandal headlines, isn't she?"

Ruben exchanged a brief glance with Jeffrey. "The other man is me," he stated flatly. "Any other questions?"

Jeffrey's realization dawned slowly, his lips curving into a mischievous smile. "I see. So the thrill of being with a married woman is what drives you, huh?"

He turned his attention back to the task at hand, his tone turning professional. "I've given her a sedative to ensure she sleeps soundly. Once she wakes up, make sure she visits the hospital for a thorough check-up."

With those final instructions, Jeffrey collected his medical kit and exited briskly.

Outside, the driver watched Jeffrey depart before his attention was pulled away by the persistent vibration of his phone.

"Mr. Gordon, you've received a message from your family. They want to know if you've returned to the country," the driver informed Ruben, standing patiently by his side.

Rising from the plush sofa, Ruben made a swift decision. "I'll drive back myself. And hire a few servants to look after her in the meantime," he instructed, his voice carrying a tone of urgency.

Having been well protected by her family, she had trouble handling difficulties.

...

Elin's eyes fluttered open to the unfamiliar yet opulent surroundings, her body cocooned in silky pajamas.

Flashes of betrayal crashed over her-the orchestrated hotel affair, the cold rain outside the Infinity Group building, and those intimate images of Dean and Camila burning into her mind.

All that had happened seemed like a cruel illusion, a deception her heart stubbornly refused to accept.

Frantic as a headless chicken, Elin darted out of the room in utter disarray.

She stumbled upon the stairs in her haste, her foot slipping off a step, sending her tumbling downward.

Just as she was about to meet the floor, a hand shot out, steadying her with an effortless grasp. The man poised to climb the stairs had caught her just in time.

"Waking up and already trying to sneak off? Where do you think you're headed?" Ruben demanded, his tone unyielding.

As Elin regained her footing, a cool, refreshing scent enveloped her, calming her nerves. She recognized the man-it was him, the one from that unforgettable night, the one who had unveiled the stark reality to her.

"Thank you," she murmured softly, the words laced with quiet sincerity.

Once she steadied herself, Elin's eyes darted downwards, her lips pressed tightly together in a thin line. "Could I use your car?" she ventured cautiously.

There were questions that gnawed at her, questions only Dean could answer.

What drove him to manipulate everything just to set her up and take the company her father worked so hard for?

With a quiet shake of his head, the driver behind Ruben spoke up. "Ms. Walsh, isn't this truth more than enough for you?"

"Josh, hand her the keys," Ruben cut in, his voice laced with a stark indifference that chilled the air. "She's lost it all already. What's one more loss to her?"

Ruben's words, veiled in mockery, stung Elin, igniting a flush of embarrassment across her cheeks. She grabbed the keys from Josh and made a swift exit, her heart pounding with a mixture of determination and dread.

The Infinity Group was now under Dean's iron fist, and he had made it clear that she was no longer allowed. Knowing it would be a lost cause to confront him there, Elin redirected her course towards Camila's home instead.

Upon arriving, Elin stepped out of the car and approached the gate.

Pushing it open, she entered and her eyes immediately landed on a small boy blissfully playing on a wooden horse in the garden. Her heart skipped a beat as she froze in place.
