The venue was breathtaking. "Oh, wow. I knew they were rich but not this rich," Melissa gasped surprised. She's right. From the moment we passed through the main entrance and from the steps, Melissa and I were in awe of the stunning decorations. The room we currently occupied was adorned with twinkling lights, elegant chandeliers, and vibrant floral arrangements. The tables were elegantly set with sparkling silverware and delicate centerpieces. It was like stepping into a fairytale.
It looked amazing. And I heard the celebrant was celebrating her fifty-seventh birthday. I wonder how the venue for her sixtieth would look?
As we made our way further into the hall, I couldn't help but notice the diverse crowd of werewolves from different packs. The air was filled with excitement and anticipation. I couldn't help but enjoy the view, taking in the unique features and personalities of each guest.
Among all the sights I had witnessed and the ones I was yet to see, I had no idea why the urge to see the Alphas was getting stronger.
"This is a lot of people. Are they all jobless?" Daenerys asks and I have to hold back my laughter. It's good to know my wolf has social anxiety just like me.
I turn to my left and I briefly catch Melissa craning her neck in the other direction as if she was trying to catch a glimpse of someone. At first, I couldn't believe she was that excited to meet them. I even had to drive because of how excited she was. I had no interest in waking up in a ditch the next day.
As each minute passed, more guests walked in filling up the hall and it still seemed to have enough space for more than a hundred people. With a smile on my face, I savored the taste of my finger food, but then, my heart sank and my mood was ruined as soon as I caught sight of him. Jackson, my cheating ex, walked in with another woman on his arm. It wasn't even the girl I had caught him in our bed with. I could feel my anger and hurt resurfacing, but I refused to let his presence ruin my night.
Just as I was trying to compose myself, Melissa approached me. As if she could sense my unease, she placed her hand on mine and offered me a comforting smile. "Hey, don't let him ruin your night. You're too amazing for that. Let's focus on having a great time tonight, okay?"
I nodded, grateful for her support. "You're right, Melissa. I won't let him ruin my night. He doesn't deserve that sort of privilege.
As the night progressed the celebrant made herself known to some of the guests. She went round the hall, with her husband the former Alpha of the Stormclaw clan. They were doing their rounds of greeting and welcoming some of the guests. I was surprised when she stopped in front of Melissa and me. And it just had to be when I had a plate of oily finger food in my hand with a face stuffed with. "Shit, Malia she's heading this way!" Melissa shrieks only low enough for me to hear. I immediately ditch my plate and try to swallow the lump of food in my throat.
Oh, goddess. Please don't let me die choking on greasy food, in front of all these people.
"Hello, I'm Esmeralda Windsor, and this is my husband, Alexander Windsor. I'd like to thank you for coming, may I know your names?" She asks with a bright smile. It's hard to believe she's fifty-seven.
"I'm Melissa Banner, Luna. It's so nice to meet you and you too, Alpha. Happy birthday, by the way." Melissa added nervously and I almost laughed.
Esmeralda chuckles, "Oh, no. We're not Alpha and Luna anymore. Our sons are the new Alphas." Esmeralda ends it with a nod directed at Melissa before turning to me. Immediately she looks at me it suddenly feels like all the eyes in the room are on me too. "Hello, what's your name gorgeous?"
"Malia... Bailey. Malia Bailey," I'm so fucking nervous I was making a fool of myself.
"Bailey? You're Cameron and Lilah's girl?" Her husband, Alexander asks.
"Yes, Al- I mean, sir."
They both chuckle playfully, "Well it was nice seeing you. We have to go greet some of the guests and thank you for coming, say hi to your folks for us, Malia." Esmeralda waves before they move on.
"Shit that was a failure," Melissa deadpans and I'm about to ask what she means when a delicious aroma wafts into my nose.
Three different, delicious aromas.
And I'm sure it's not the food, in fact I know it's not the food. Finger food and steak do not smell like mint, cedar wood, and sage. I use my nose as a guide to lead me to where the scents are coming from. Just as I walk through the crowd of people, I don't notice that everyone around me has gone quiet. I'm a woman on a mission to find the interesting scents that have taken refuge in my head.
My movement comes to a halt when I get to the front of the hall, my nose twitches a little at how strong the smell is in this area. Even Daenerys is running around excitedly. And I have no idea why.
I look around the room, there's no way those aromas were coming from a dish they seemed... alive, and strong.
I lift my head in the opposite direction, and I'm met with the most distinct and different colors of green. Three tall identical men are standing a few steps opposite me, they're body is obstructed from my view but I see all their eyes on me.
Their features are distinct and identical, and the way a few people have bowed before walking past them.... oh my goddess!
They're the Alphas!
I have no idea why excitement begins to bubble in my stomach, I feel my legs moving toward them of their own accord. With their eyes still on me, my skin tingles under their gaze.
Just a few more steps and I'll be closer to them. I'm about to close the huge distance between us when all three of them turn and walk the other way without saying anything or acknowledging my presence further.
My heart drops and I can feel uncontrollable tears begin to roll down my eyes, "Oh, goddess! Are those the Alphas? Did you speak to them? Shit, are they leaving?" Melissa rambles uncontrollably, but I'm too lost in my head to say anything to her. I just wipe my tears and run out of the hall.
I hear footsteps behind me and I turn to Melissa, "You can go back inside. I have to go home," I sniff uncontrollably.
"Are you crying? What's wrong?"
Unable to keep the rejection bottled inside, the pain and the tears begin to magnify as I replay the scene of them walking away in my head, "I...I met my mate," I stutter in between sobs. I cast my gaze to the floor.
Melissa's eyes widen, "One of the Alphas? Uh.. w-which one?"
I lock my teary eyes with hers, "No, not one! All of them. I'm mated to the triplet Alphas." I acknowledge the word Daenerys had whispered in my head out loud.
