Chapter 5 Fighting The Thoughts

Charlotte' POV

The night was so long, I slept like a baby. It was a very hectic day for me. I woke up very early though, but the thoughts of Richard and the notification I saw on my phone kept flashing back in my mind.

I don't know how to say this, but the thought of Richard not being with another lady keeps arousing jealousy in me. I tried to fight it that morning. But damn! It was so intense and Strong.

"Char, you have to prepare for work, otherwise you will be queried by Sandra. Remember your ordeal with her the last time out. I don't think you want to start your day at Hansla with negative vibes again". I was interrupted by a thought from my mind.

I quickly left the bed, stood at the window and gaze at the morning dews that were so crisp and crystal clear.

"Tis gonna be a great day today. Haha!"

I stretched my arms and dashed into the bathroom to have a wonderful warm bath.

I came out of the bathroom. I gaze at the wall clock in my room and it was already. 7:30a.m. "Damn! not today again, I have to report very early. At least I don't want Richard to see me being embarrassed by that mischievous Sandra" I said to myself.

I hastily went to my wardrobe. Although I didn't prepare what I would wear yesterday. I scanned through all the clothes that were on the hanger. My face was pale, seeing those clothes. I haven't created time to iron them. I searched through to see if there's any manageable one.

I was about to close the wardrobe, when a second thought told me to open the little box at the extreme right end of the wardrobe.

I quickly grabbed the box, drew it closer and opened it.

Boom! I had some beautiful dresses I ironed beautifully. I couldn't recall when I kept them there. But it was a befitting consolation to me at that moment.

A warm smile grazed my face as I picked out one dress from the box. It was a silver blue gown. It has some yellow -red flowery design at the abdominal part

It was a perfect match. It was what I had in mind to put on. I closed the box and pushed it back to the spot where I saw it.

I hurriedly closed the wardrobe. I put on the dress and picked a silver shoe from my shoe rack. I went to the mirror, applied some make up. I looked through the mirror to see myself.

"Charlotte, you're dripping hot! go and slaughter them. Spare no one"

A smile of pride and elegance caresses my beautiful face. I was absolutely stunning that morning. And for the "spare no one aspect". Richard was my target. Infact, he's the chief prey to be slaughtered. The thought of that made my belly flow with ceaseless butterflies.

I picked up my phone and gaze at the clock once more. It was already7:45 am. The drive from my house to Hansla building is 15 minutes. At least I still have 15 minutes to save my face from shame and embarrassment from Sandra.

I ran out through the door. Locked it and headed straight to the road to board a taxi going to Hansla Tech. I was lucky to see a cab the moment I came out to the main road. I waved to the taxi driver and he stopped. I entered and was on my way.

I was constantly checking the time on my phone. I peeped through the left glass of the passenger's seat to see if there was traffic upfront.

Entering a traffic jam was the last thing I wished to experience this morning. Sometimes, it is inevitable because the road is always busy and noisy. People are running against time to meet up at their workplaces and to meet up for scheduled meetings and appointments.

I arrived at Hansla Tech at 7:57a.m. I opened the door and came down. I paid the driver and walked to the gate.

I was at the gate when I saw Sandra horning to alert the gateman to open.

"Thank God, this bitch is just coming now". I thought to myself. My face was a little bit relaxed. I was not scared of Richard, but Sandra.

That doesn't mean I am disrespectful to him. I give him the complete respect and honor he deserves. Obviously, he deserves it. He is the CEO of the firm. Why not?. But there was something about Sandra. She carries an aura of fear. Her presence always instills fear and panic in people. Unfortunately, I was cut in that web of fear for her. But her tongue is a well of fire. That's the major reason I do things right to avoid that venom from her mouth.

Sandra turned to my side and chuckled a little at me . I reciprocated and waved to her. But, I wasn't swayed by those deceitful smiles. I had to find my way into the building before her. Or else, her venom will be spat on me.

My relationship with her hasn't been so rosy. The first day I came to Hansla, she made me look like a fool before everyone. Especially that moment at the boardroom where we held that meeting. She was forming the boss, I admitted that I was late no doubt, but she should have been a little lighter with her lashing. She lashed at me as if we heard pending issues to settle.

I cannot decipher if she was a good person or if I had a wrong impression of her personality. But, my psychological assessment of people at the first meetings hasn't been wrong. I can assess someone from our first meeting or encounter.

I rushed in when the gatekeeper opened the gate for me. I just don't want to have a conversation with her this morning.

I entered and greeted some of the Hansla staff who were walking in. I waved, hi some and chuckled at some. My mood was so good this morning. Coupled with the fact that many of the staff gave a resounding commendation and appraisal of my dressing.

I was still conversing with one of the staff when Sandra came down from her car. Her face changed when she glanced at the watch on her wrist.

I quickly dismissed the conversation and ran to the boardroom. We normally hold early morning meetings every Monday to discuss how we're going to run some pending projects.

To ensure that my day will be productive and full of energy, I have to avoid anything that will make her demoralize and belittle me again. I was a new recruit and she had been with Hansla for some years.

Richard doesn't interrupt her whenever she's talking. She had earned her respect in the firm. Everyone accord that prestige to her.

I was Richard's new secretary and an intern. My duties are to ensure that I get all the documents we will be deliberating on from the CEO's office.

I got to the elevator, pressed the button and within a few seconds, I was on the top floor.

I walked straight to Richard's office. It was already open. The cleaner does come early to tidy everywhere. I was impressed by her work.

I entered and got the documents that we will deliberate on from his front desk. Richard is quite organized. He does his work and stuff very well. He may not be the type that flirts around. But once it comes to tech and other work -related stuff, he's phenomenal.

I picked up the documents and walked majestically to the boardroom.
