Chapter 4
I glanced at their retreating figures, my hand unconsciously moving to my chest. Suddenly, a scanning frame popped up in my vision.
I had accidentally activated the scan and trace function.
Before my eyes, scenes of their actions over the past few days began to play out like a movie.
It turned out that while I was suffering in the hospital, they were enjoying themselves.
Oliver had said that once I got better, he would marry me. So, before that, they wanted to seize the last moments to relive their old memories.
In a mere three days, they had rented out a cinema to watch "Titanic," embracing and crying in the theater.
They rode the city's tallest Ferris wheel, kissing with the city lights beneath them, closest to the sky.
They even went skydiving at Leaf Mountain, holding each other tightly during the adrenaline rush of skydiving, entrusting their lives and passions to one another.
Each event, each moment, was a regret from their childhood crush days, growing up together only to part ways halfway.
And tonight was supposed to be their farewell candlelight dinner, warm and romantic.
But I came back and ruined this meal.
Naturally, there was no farewell.
I saw Oliver in the master bedroom, frustratedly tugging at his tie by the floor-to-ceiling window.
Sylvie clung to his arm. "Oliver, we didn't get to say a proper goodbye tonight. It's all Verena's fault for coming back at the wrong time."
Oliver's chest heaved a few times before he pulled her into his arms, a roguish smile on his face. "Then we won't say goodbye. Verena's actions are really upsetting."
"Anyway, I only said I'd marry her; I never said when."
"Let her wait! Even if she waits until she dies, she'll become Mrs. Harris eventually."
"Oliver, you're so bad... But since you two haven't broken up yet, isn't it inappropriate for me to stay here? Maybe you should send me back?"
So, she was aware of her disgraceful behavior. She just didn't care about decency.
I saw a strange look of anticipation in her eyes.
Oliver was silent for a moment, then patted her head. "It's fine. She won't dare say anything. You can stay here without worry."
She lowered her eyes, the light in them fading.
She probably wanted to hear Oliver say he would break up with me.
For some reason, he didn't say that.
The deal to save her and get married was just a casual remark.
If he didn't fulfill it, there was nothing I could do about it.
After all, he had broken too many promises over the years.
I watched them flirt and banter, the high-definition AR images giving me an immersive experience.
Oliver, you were right. I am truly dead inside.
You are the reason I feel dead inside.
