"Who's there?" I demanded, slipping my hand into my pocket to feel my dagger, ready for any surprise attack. A minute or two had passed, but nothing-not even a gust of wind. I sighed. Relieved that, at least for now, I am safe, considering that in the next three days will be my eighteenth birthday, and word has come out that they will really banish me this time around.
"Mate will come!" I was not prepared for the sudden shriek. I was doubting myself awhile ago, but now I am sure the voice really came from my head.
"What the fuck?" I exhaled and held my head, shaking it and even tapping it.
"Hey, that is not very nice, Katie!" She whined, and I swear I can feel her striding in my head. I sat down when my head suddenly ached. 'What is this?' I thought to myself.
"What do you mean, what!? I am not a thing!!! Oh Goddess, why would you assign me a total opposite as a counterpart?" It replied and whined again. I felt it stomping its feet this time. I gasped. Now, really, I guess I watched too many horror films. I was then taken aback as the door flung open, popping out Khalid and Jessica.
"Katie! You have a wolf counterpart? I mean.. you could talk to her!?!" Khalid excitedly rushed inside while carrying Khael, and I saw Jessica beaming so brightly.
"What on earth is tha--"
"I am not a THAT!" It--or she really is upset right now. Khalid and Jessica laughed as I stared at them, confused.
They looked at me, and I saw their eye color change, just like what happened to Khalid the day I turned five.
"Oh my Goddess! I have a little pup?!" Khalid said, but at the same time, it felt like another persona of him.
"I am not your daughter, Khan. Sister! SISTER! What do you mean, pup!!? Hmp. Oh wait, that is one cute little bundle of joy!" She sighed and shook her head. I could vividly feel her actions. She beamed at the sight of Khael.
Khan. That was what Khalid muttered in the past. I have forgotten all about it until now.
"You really need to tell her who you are, sweetie." Jessica, who is not Jessica but feels like Jessica, chuckled.
"Fine, Jessie. And I was just getting started on having fun with her." She giggled.
"Hi Katie! I am your wolf, Kath! At least now I am not a that to you anymore." She happily purred, and suddenly my headache vanished.
I froze there, not knowing what to do, but..
"Kath.." I whispered and smiled.
"It is nice meeting you," I added. I feel like another person now. A whole new me. My wolf counterpart. It feels good to be able to sense her inside my head. Now I don't feel truly alone.
"I was always with you, Katie. Ever since you were five. But I need to hide to protect you as your body cannot take me yet." She explained and apologized for all the pain I suffered. I assured her that all of them were worth it to keep both of us safe; she did the right thing.
"Why is the wolf that talks inside your mind not in any history books?" I wondered and asked Khalid and Jessica.
"They are in history books, Katie. But they are exclusive to future Alphas and Lunas," Khalid explained while playing with Khael. Khael cooed at the sight of his dad.
"So am I a future Luna then? Does this mean I won't be kicked out of the pack in three days?" I beamed, but both of them shake their heads in disapproval and fear.
"Katie, you can only sense and be able to converse with your wolf counterpart if you meet three conditions: one, if you are at the right age of wolfing out; two, if you are a future Alpha or Luna; and three, if you can see and meet your mate," Jessica explained while holding my hand.
"But you haven't met your mate yet, right?" she added, slightly worried. I nodded since they say you would instantly feel and know if you had met your mate. So far, I haven't sensed that feeling.
"And she isn't a future Luna either!" Kath chimed, joining in our conversation.
"What!?" Khalid and Jessica yelled.
"How is that possible?" Khalid murmured, and Kath laughed at him.
"You will meet mate in three days time Katie," Kath whispered, and without Khalid's overprotective protest, I knew she only communicated with me.
"Why aren't we telling them? Can't we trust them?" I asked.
"We can, Katie, but I'm sure Khalid won't let you meet mate if he knows," Kath answered. I looked at Khalid, still surprised by the news Kath declared. It hurts me to hide it from him, but I know it is for the best.
We went to my brother's place and celebrated for a bit. Percy and Rose were away on their little getaway. A bummer, we wanted to invite them as a celebration in advance for my birthday. They sent a letter saying they would come back either later tonight or tomorrow morning.
Khalid passed me an exclusive werewolf book. As I read it, I was bombarded with tons of information.
"Wait.. vampires exist!?" Surprised by the news, my mouth flew open.
"That is just a legend, Katie. And old folklore, don't mind that part," Khalid explained, but curiosity kills the wolf so.. My eyes skimmed through the book.
Khalid let Jessica hold Khael, and she went to their room as the baby needed to sleep. My brother sat beside me and told me about his plan. In three days, once I'm banished, he arranges for me to stay in his friend's pack. He assured me that he could be trusted since he met him at Alpha Academy. Khalid explained that we could go a day or hours before the banishment so that Alpha Fredrick can't humiliate me in front of the whole pack and declare me rogue. I agreed and can't thank him enough.
Once we were done talking, I came back to the cabin and slept.
My body jolted awake. Running to the kitchen to drink a glass of water as I dreamed of that man. He was so furious about me leaving. I can vividly see him in a room deprived of light. How does he know? I suddenly looked around to see if he'd be near, but he wasn't. I felt chills. It should be quite eerie to know that he can hear or see me, but oddly enough, I only feel peace. Like my body and soul know, he will not hurt me.
