Chapter 4 Who Said I Agreed To Divorce

Kayson paused for a second, his eyes still fixed in the distance. "Yes, I will," he said at last, his voice as calm as still water.

Annette couldn't help smiling. She slid her fingers down Kayson's arm until she caught his hand.

Kayson let her hold his hand, but he kept looking out the window with a cold, hard expression.

A long time ago, he had promised Annette that he would marry her.

He had made that pledge when she hurled herself between him and a knife and saved his life.

He vowed to take care of Annette for the rest of her life.

But he didn't expect his grandfather to force him into marrying Miriam. Their arranged marriage disrupted all his plans for the future.

He had wanted to divorce Miriam for a long time.

And now, she finally offered to divorce him.

Kayson went over what happened again and again and tried to ignore all the confounding emotions lingering in his heart.

Suddenly, his phone started vibrating. Someone was calling.

Kayson looked down, and the caller ID told him that it was Miriam. Then, all the bewildering emotions he had just suppressed once again floated to the surface.

He picked up the phone and answered, "Miriam."

He tried to keep his voice even, but the anger in his chest couldn't help jumping out.

Tightening her grip on her phone, Miriam took a deep breath and replied as calmly as she could, "Our divorce papers are ready. I'll wait for you at home to sign them in three days."

Afterward, she hung up.

This was the first time that she hung up on him.

In the past, it was Kayson who always ended the call before Miriam even finished her words.

This time, it was the other way around.

Within one day, the roles had reversed.

The man who Miriam once so deeply adored had now fallen from grace and become someone she was eager to get rid of.

Seething with rage, Kayson sent his phone flying across the room, and it hit the wall.

The phone shattered into pieces and scattered all over the floor.

All of a sudden, Kayson didn't want to grant Miriam a divorce.

Three days later, Miriam was discharged from the hospital. Her ankle was still bandaged, and she was unable to walk.

Patricia accompanied her home as she didn't want her facing Kayson on her own.

"How about I stay with you? What if Kayson refuses to sign the divorce papers?"

Looking at the divorce papers on the coffee table, Miriam put on a self-mocking smile and insisted that Patricia go home.

Soon, Kayson arrived and silently approached the injured woman on the sofa.

Miriam felt her heart skip a beat as his shadow loomed over her. The man's commanding presence spiked the air with so much tension that she could almost taste it.

"You..."

Before she could say more, he pinched her chin hard and forced her head up. He made her look into his piercing eyes.

For a moment, Miriam didn't dare draw breath.

"You want to divorce me and don't want any alimony?" Kayson asked in a low, hoarse voice. He sounded intimidating yet mellow and pleasant at the same time.

Miriam opened her mouth to answer, but he cut her off.

"Do you think I'll agree?"

Hearing that, Miriam couldn't believe her ears. For a long time, she stared at Kayson with wide eyes. Once she snapped back to her senses, she asked, "What do you mean? You don't want a divorce?"

Putting on an arrogant, contemptuous smile, Kayson rubbed her chin with his thumb.

"No, I don't. We're going to stay married, Miriam. Are you happy now?" The condescension in his tone was unmistakable. It was as if he was telling her that he was going to do her a favor by keeping her shackled to him and that their marriage was a gift that he was bestowing upon her.

His attitude about the matter humiliated Miriam.

Gritting her teeth, Miriam swatted off Kayson's hand.

Her heart tightened painfully in her chest, and her face went even paler than before. It took all of her self-control to keep from trembling in front of Kayson.

"What makes you so confident, Kayson? Do you think I will stay married to a man who's cheating on me?" She raised her head. It was the first time that she bared her fangs and claws to him like a threatened lioness. "You may be fine with it, but I'm not. I'm not clinging to a tainted man."

At that, Kayson's face darkened.

How dare she?

She was getting bolder. Why didn't he realize before that this woman could be this undaunted?

"Tainted?" Kayson hissed, slightly bending down and locking his gaze with Miriam's. "Is that what you think?"

The aggression emanating from him took her breath away.

Bravely returning his stare, she willed her muscles to stop trembling. She clenched her jaw and blurted out her response with difficulty.

"Yes."

A terrifying grin curled Kayson's lips.

Miriam's heart started racing out of fear. She moved back a little, trying to put some distance between them. But the next second, Kayson pounced on her and pressed her down on the sofa with his body.

Their noses were almost touching, and they were close enough to share breath.

"We've been married for two years, but I haven't fucked you, not even once." As Kayson spoke, he ran his eyes all over Miriam's lush body. Amusement and a hint of desire crinkled the corners of his eyes.

His lewd gaze sent a chill down Miriam's spine. She started flailing around and hitting him in the chest. "What are you doing, Kayson? Get off me!"

Kayson held both of her wrists over her head with one hand and reached for her shirt with the other. He ripped it open with one fluid movement.

Half of her light-colored bra came into view, and he darted his eyes to the exposed curve of her breast.

"What am I doing? I have no interest in you, but..." Kayson took a playful glance at her shivering body, and his eyes gradually darkened. "I just want to see how untainted you are."

As he spoke, he continued to tear the rest of her clothing off her body.

Miriam felt so humiliated that her eyes started burning with tears.

Unwilling to give up, she struggled a few more times, but Kayson was way too strong for her. Their bodies were so close that they could feel each other's warmth.

However, this intimacy wasn't romantic at all. To Miriam, it was an utter violation.

The next moment, she looked down and realized that Kayson had a grip on her bra.

He was about to yank off the last thing that covered her upper body.

She froze and then blinked. Hot tears started streaming down her face. She felt like a pretty, helpless doll that belonged to a savage kid.

Giving up hope, she didn't say anything and just stared at the brute on top of her.

Seeing the sadness and defeat in Miriam's eyes, Kayson stopped dead. He felt like something just gripped his heart with bony fingers that were as cold as ice.

He relaxed his grip on her wrists a little and withdrew his other hand from her chest. He didn't want to continue.

However, what Miriam said next fueled his simmering fury.

"When I pursued you, you despised me. Now that I want a divorce, you refuse to let me go. Are you so hard up for women that you have to force yourself on me?"
