Chapter 4 A Deal

Caldwell's eyes flashed dangerously and he stood up from the wheelchair.

"You're smarter than you look, Miss Bentley. It seems I have underestimated you. So tell me. Do you really want to marry me?" Caldwell narrowed his eyes at her coldly. "Tell me. How much money will it take for you to call off the engagement?"

Rosina looked into his eyes unrelentingly and said, "I was engaged to you ever since I was two years old, Mr. Walsh. Do you think I knew about money and the benefits of marrying into a rich family at that age? Did my two-year-old self force our mothers to arrange our marriage?"

Caldwell sneered with disdain. As he expected, this woman was eloquent.

"At that time, I was only two years old while you were already ten. Do you think I was interested in an old man?" Rosina's eyes flashed aggressively.

Caldwell's expression darkened.

An old man?

He was still young—barely thirty. This woman dared to call him old!

How bold she was!

The atmosphere became thick with tension.

Noticing Caldwell's change in expression, Rosina pursed her lips and wondered if she had gone too far. The sole reason why she was willing to marry into the Walsh family was that Perry had promised that he would return what belonged to her mother, not to make an enemy of her husband-to-be.

"Mr. Walsh, I know you don't want to marry me either..." She softened her tone deliberately and became less aggressive.

And she paused on purpose to observe Caldwell's reaction. Although there was only a slight change in his expression, she still captured it.

"So, let's make a deal," Rosina proposed with determination in her eyes.

"Ha-ha." Caldwell chuckled dryly. "Miss Bentley, what makes you think you can negotiate with me?"

Rosina mulled over this for a moment before finally saying, "I'll divorce you a month after the wedding."

Caldwell's eyebrow shot up. "Is this the so-called deal you want to make with me?"

"Yes. We still have to get married, as per our mothers' wishes. But afterwards, we can get divorced due to natural reasons—different personalities, et cetera. That way, we won't break the promise, nor will you have to live with a person you don't love for the rest of your life."

Speaking of this, Rosina slowed down. "I guess it's because you love someone else that you want the Bentley family to break off the engagement, right?"

Caldwell's expression darkened. In a low voice, he hissed, "It's none of your business."

He fixed his eyes on her calm face and asked, "What about you? What do you get out of this?"

Caldwell didn't believe that she was just doing this for his good.

Rosina's heart leaped to her throat. She couldn't tell him that she was doing all of this for her mother's property.

She rolled her eyes and said perfunctorily, "My mother attaches great importance to this engagement. She's not in good health, so I don't want to disappoint her."

"Is that so?" Caldwell's tone was inexplicably icy, as if he could see through her mind.

Rosina was discomfited under his intense gaze. His eyes were so sharp, she felt as if they could pierce through her heart. Just as she was at a loss for words, his phone started to ring.

Caldwell glanced at Rosina and took out his phone. When he saw the name on the screen, his expression softened. He turned around and answered the phone. As though he thought of something, he turned around and said, "Since we'll only be married for a month, there's no need for us to hold a wedding."

Rosina nodded in agreement. "Not a problem with me."

Three days later, Tyson came to pick up Rosina.

There was no wedding, not even a small ceremony.

Rosina didn't care about it at all because she knew that this was just a part of the deal.

Soon, the car pulled to a stop in front of a majestic villa.

Under the sun, the stone building stretched almost as far as the eye could see.

"Please come in." Tyson politely made a gesture of inviting her in.

He was neither enthusiastic nor cold, just courteous and formal. He probably knew that Rosina's marriage with Caldwell was only nominal and that she had no real power in the Walsh family.

Although the villa was huge, it was quiet inside. Rosina only saw one servant inside the huge hall. Tyson didn't bother to give Rosina a tour or anything and just left like that.

After Tyson left, Rosina felt a little uncomfortable.

"Good day, ma'am. My name is Sabina Ellis. I'm a servant who takes care of Mr. Walsh. You can call me Sabina. If you need anything, just tell me." Sabina showed Rosina to her room.

One month was by no means a long period of time, so Rosina had packed only a few things. Although she doubted she'd ever need Sabina's help, she still said, "Okay, thanks."

Sabina was about to leave when she hesitantly glanced at Rosina. After a slight pause, she sighed and said, "Mr. Walsh may not come back tonight. Today is Miss Brewer's birthday."
