Chapter 2 Pregnant

"Rosina, marriage is no joking matter. I can't let you do this." Josie looked at her daughter worriedly.

Rosina set the food down on the bedside table and said, "Mom, I'm not marrying a total stranger. He's the son of your old friend, isn't he?"

"My friend passed away a long time ago. I've never met her son. Even if it means breaking my promise to her, I can't let you push through with this. I want you to marry someone you like. You should not use this marriage as a bargaining chip. In that case, I'd rather stay in this country for the rest of my life." Josie reached for her hand and spoke sincerely.

Someone she liked?

Even if Rosina met her Mr. Right in the future, she was afraid that she didn't deserve him.

She lowered her head bitterly. It didn't matter whom she married. What mattered was for her to take back everything that once belonged to them.

Unable to change Rosina's mind, Josie packed up her things and went back home with Rosina the next day.

Perry didn't want Josie and Rosina to live with his family, so he told them to rent an apartment.

Rosina was fine with this. As much as possible, she didn't want to see Perry's wife and daughter.

Josie was still worried. "Rosina, even though I was the one who promised my old friend this marriage, Perry wouldn't let you marry into the Walsh family if he thought it was a good thing."

Rosina didn't want to talk about this anymore, so she briskly changed the topic. "Mom, you should eat something."

Seeing her daughter's reaction, Josie sighed.

Rosina picked up some food and was about to take a bite when she suddenly retched.

"Are you feeling sick? You look pale," Josie said with concern.

"I'm fine. Probably just tired from the long flight. I'll go back to my room first."

Rosina didn't want her mother to worry about her so she came up with a perfunctory excuse.

Without giving Josie a chance to say anything, she hurried to her room and closed the door behind her. Almost immediately after, she retched again.

It had been over a month since that fateful night. And her period was late for ten days now. This could only mean one thing...

Rosina shook her head and didn't dare to complete that thought.

The next day, Rosina had herself checked.

"You are six weeks pregnant."

Rosina left the hospital in a daze, the doctor's words still echoing in her ears.

She looked down and couldn't help but place her hands on her belly. Although she was shocked and even a little ashamed, she was surprisingly reluctant to abort the baby.

Call it maternal instinct, but she felt happy to be expecting a child.

Before entering the apartment, Rosina carefully tucked away the Ultrasound report.

As soon as she opened the door, her expression darkened.

"What are you doing here?" she asked Perry, who was sitting in the living room. "It's not the wedding day yet."

"How dare you talk to your father like that?"

Perry had been waiting for two hours now and was already impatient. Rosina's rudeness triggered his temper.

"Get dressed," he barked in exasperation.

Rosina frowned. "Why?"

"We're going to meet your fiance." Perry looked her up and down. "Do you really want him to see you in such shabby clothes? Are you deliberately trying to embarrass me?"

"If I were rich, do you think I'd be wearing these clothes? If I were rich, would my brother have died in the hospital after being denied treatment? As my father, you should know very well that I'm not rich, right?"

Rosina gritted her teeth and clenched her fists, unable to hold back her anger.

Perry looked a little embarrassed and coughed awkwardly. "We'll talk about this later. Let's just go. The Walsh family will arrive soon. We can't make them wait."

"Rosina, I have already lost a son. I just want you to live a good life. Money doesn't matter." Josie stood in front of Rosina, still trying to convince her.

"Mom, don't worry. I know what I'm doing." Rosina gave her a reassuring look and then hugged her.

"Hurry up!" Perry snapped impatiently. He was afraid that Rosina would change her mind the longer they waited, so he pushed her.

Their first stop was a high-end clothing shop.

As soon as they entered the store, a shop assistant welcomed them. Perry pushed Rosina forward and said, "Get her something she can wear."

The shop assistant studied Rosina's figure carefully and then nodded. "Please follow me, miss."

The shop assistant went to fetch a light blue dress from one of the racks and handed it to Rosina. "This should look good on you. How about you try it in the fitting room?"

Rosina took it and walked towards the direction the shop assistant pointed.

"Caldwell, do you really have to marry that Bentley woman?" A woman's voice sounded, tinged with a hint of grievance.

Rosina suddenly stopped in her tracks and looked into the next room. Through the crack between the door and its frame, she saw a woman with her arms wrapped around a man's neck, pouting. "If you marry her, what about me?"

Caldwell Walsh felt sorry for the woman in his arms. In a low voice, he asked, "Did it hurt that night?"

Over a month ago, he had gone abroad to a poor country to investigate a project. However, he was bitten by a snake there. The effect of its venom was an uncontrollable feeling of lust. If he didn't vent his desires on a woman, he would die from horniness.

It was Sonya Brewer who sacrificed herself to save him.

She was in pain, but she didn't dare to make a sound. She simply endured it, trembling in his arms.

Caldwell knew that Sonya loved him, but he had never given her a chance.

One reason was that he didn't love her. The other was that his mother had already arranged his engagement long before.

Sonya was his secretary for years and she had always done an excellent job.

After what happened that fateful night, he felt it was his responsibility to marry this woman.

Leaning against Caldwell's chest, Sonya lowered her eyes and pouted shyly.

She loved Caldwell, but at the time of his accident, she was no longer a virgin. She couldn't let him know, so she resorted to trickery that night.

"If you see anything you like, buy it," Caldwell said dotingly.

"That's a VIP fitting room, miss. You can't go there. Please go to the fitting room on the right," the shop assistant reminded Rosina, snapping her back to reality.

"Oh, okay." Rosina looked away quickly and strode into the room on the right.

As she changed her clothes, she couldn't stop thinking about the conversation between the man and the woman in the VIP fitting room. They seemed to have been talking about the Bentley family.

Was that man...?
