Chapter 8 What Do You Want Me To Say

Rosina, whose head was bowed, slowly looked up to see the man's face. "Dr. Vance, why are you here?" she asked in surprise.

Lyndon Vance smiled gently. Before he could explain, the director of the hospital explained, "Dr. Vance was invited to be a lecturer in our hospital. Dr. Vance, is this lady a friend of yours?"

Lyndon nodded and looked at Rosina in confusion. "What're you doing here? Are you not feeling well?"

With a bitter smile, Rosina shook her head slowly.

Her brother had been autistic, and Lyndon had been his attending doctor. As a result, the two of them had grown familiar with each other.

"Rosina!" Josie urgently rushed over.

When the nurse told her that Rosina had run away, Josie was shocked. She was relieved when she saw that Rosina didn't get very far.

Rosina pursed her lips and lowered her head once more, feeling guilty.

Realizing that Rosina might be in trouble, Lyndon turned to the director and said politely, "You can go ahead. I'll catch up with my friend for a little while."

The director nodded. "Then I won't take up any more of your time today. I hope you'll consider our invitation. If you have any requirements, just tell me. I'll do what I can to meet them."

Lyndon smiled gently and said, "I'll think about it."

After the director left, Lyndon turned to Rosina and said in a low voice, "Let's talk outside."

Josie was also familiar with Lyndon. When they couldn't afford her son's medical expenses, Lyndon would help them pay.

He had earned Josie's respect, and she felt that she couldn't refuse him.

As soon as they walked out of the hospital, Rosina covered her belly and begged, "Mom, please! Let me keep the child!"

Hearing this, Lyndon frowned in confusion. What did Rosina mean? Soon, it dawned on him and he fixed his eyes on her belly.

When he saw the report in Josie's hand, his guess was instantly confirmed. She was pregnant.

The news shocked him to his core.

He wanted to know what happened, but reasoned that now wasn't the right time to ask about it.

"Abort the baby or I'll disown you. Make your choice," Josie said with some finality.

"Mom, my brother's dead. This child is my only family besides you." Rosina burst into tears.

When Josie looked at her daughter's crying face, her expression softened.

Thinking about how Rosina might have no one to care for her when she was old, Josie let out a long sigh and relented. "Fine."

Then, she took out a tissue and wiped Rosina's tear-stained face.

Hearing this, Rosina finally felt relieved.

"Where do you live? I'm free now. Let me drive you home," Lyndon said kindly.

This was their private affair, but he decided to help them in the little ways that he could.

Josie smiled wearily. "Thank you so much, Dr. Vance."

When Lyndon pulled into the driveway of their apartment building, they invited him inside.

The three of them chatted for a while until Josie retired to her room to get some rest.

Lyndon then asked, "Rosina, will you go back to Asicea in the future?"

Rosina shook her head resolutely. "No."

She didn't belong in that foreign place and didn't miss it at all.

Home was wherever her mother was.

"Do you have any plans for the future?" he continued.

"Actually, I'm looking for a job. Dr. Vance, I'll never forget about your kindness. I'll pay you back when I have the money."

Lyndon smiled and said gently, "There's no need to pay me back. I volunteered to help you. Don't worry. It's more important for you to take good care of your mother and yourself."

"I'll feel guilty if I don't pay you back," Rosina insisted stubbornly.

"Well, alright then. But there's no rush." Lyndon knew how determined Rosina was, so he didn't insist anymore.

The two of them chatted for a little longer before Lyndon got up to leave.

Seeing her mother's closed door, Rosina sighed and left as well.

Rosina returned to Caldwell's villa. She was about to retire to their room when she heard footsteps behind her.

She turned around and saw a tall figure.

Then, a beautiful woman walked out from behind Caldwell.

"I'm going back to my room," Rosina said instantly, eyes wide from shock.

She didn't expect Caldwell would bring his girlfriend home at such a late hour.

And she didn't want to be the third wheel.

Sonya was also surprised to see Rosina. Wasn't she the woman at the hospital earlier?

Sonya cast a sidelong glance at Caldwell. Recalling his strange reaction at the hospital, she felt incredibly uneasy.

"Caldwell, Miss Bentley might get angry. How about I go home instead?" Sonya said in a pitiful tone, which made Caldwell's expression darken.

"Stop right there!" Caldwell shouted as Rosina was about to make her escape. "Sonya will be coming here frequently, understand?"

Rosina thought it was unnecessary for him to tell her this. What did it have to do with her?

"Uhm, okay. Anyway, I'll go upstairs first." Before he could answer, Rosina turned around to run up the stairs.

"Miss Bentley?" Sonya suddenly called out to her. "I'm sorry."

Women were sensitive creatures. Besides, Caldwell's strange behavior made Sonya put her guard up against Rosina.

How could she rest easy if there was another woman in Caldwell's home? She had gone to great lengths to win his heart, but another woman suddenly showed up out of the blue.

And this woman looked so young. Sonya tried to contain the jealousy in her heart.

The title of Mrs. Walsh belonged to her and her alone. No one could take it away from her.

Rosina frowned in confusion.

Sonya said apologetically, "I know you and Caldwell are married, but we love each other. Because of me, you have suffered. I'm really sorry."

"You don't have to apologize to her," Caldwell said indifferently.

Looking at the nonchalant expression on Rosina's face, he couldn't help but be reminded of what he saw at the hospital and felt disgusted.

Rosina shrugged as though she felt completely unaffected and proceeded to climb the stairs. Clearly, Sonya was trying to feign kindness in front of Caldwell. Rosina didn't want to deal with such bullshit any longer.

"That's not a very nice attitude," Caldwell said coldly, his face as gloomy as a winter day.

Rosina stopped in her tracks and turned to look the man in the eye.

"Mr. Walsh, what kind of attitude should I have when my husband brings home another woman?"
