Chapter 2 Would Her Pregnancy Change His Mind

Cheryl's body instantly went stiff. Only her hand, which was holding the document pouch, trembled slightly.

The room was so quiet that they could've heard a pin drop.

The sound of a phone buzzing broke the suffocating silence.

In a daze, Cheryl looked down at her phone, on which a message from her best friend, Sheila Goodwin, was displayed.

"I saw Jarred and Ines at the art exhibition today! You should keep an eye out for them. Don't let Ines steal your husband!"

Cheryl's long and delicate eyelashes quivered, covering her tearful eyes.

A bitter smile tugged at the corners of her lips.

So that was why she felt that there was something off about Jarred today. No wonder he didn't come home last night...

Now, the truth was revealed.

But what could she do?

She was losing her beloved husband.

Cheryl squeezed her eyes shut, trying hard to hold back her tears.

She felt as though a knife was stabbing her heart, but she smiled faintly. "Divorce... Is it because of Ines?"

Looking at Cheryl's calm expression, Jarred fell unusually silent.

After a while, he finally answered, "Yes. I promised Ines I'd marry her."

He spoke slowly, and every word was another stab to Cheryl's heart.

Cheryl felt her soul leaving her body. Then, all at once, she felt excruciating pain.

The pain was so intense that she could hardly breathe.

Before getting married, Cheryl knew about Jarred's ex-girlfriend, Ines Sampson, whom he loved and cherished very much. At the time, she had envied Ines.

Therefore, when Jarred's grandfather suddenly met her and proposed a marriage between her and Jarred, although she yearned for it, she had refused because she knew Jarred would never agree.

Unexpectedly, one day, Jarred came to Cheryl himself and declared that he would marry her.

Cheryl couldn't believe her ears. She had no idea why Jarred agreed, but she loved him so she didn't try to dissuade him. She had liked Jarred ever since childhood. She couldn't think of any reason to refuse him.

And after getting married, Jarred seemed to have changed a lot. His walls fell down and he cared about her deeply.

Cheryl was so immersed in the illusory tenderness that she almost forgot that he had never loved her.

Now, she was rudely awoken from her dream.

With her trembling hands, Cheryl tried her best to suppress her grief.

She lowered her head and said nothing. From Jarred's perspective, she looked exceptionally calm and unbothered even.

"What're you holding?" Only then did Jarred notice the document pouch with the hospital's logo in Cheryl's hand.

"Are you sick?"

Seeing that Cheryl didn't respond, Jarred reached out to take the document in her hand.

He was getting closer and closer. Cheryl stared at him blankly, and for a moment, she wanted to dodge. He was about to divorce her, and it had nothing to do with him whether she was sick or not. After all, someone else occupied his heart.

But before she could think too much, Jarred had taken the document pouch out of her hand.

Cheryl finally came to her senses. This was her pregnancy test result, which contained the surprise that she wanted to share with him yesterday.

Cheryl suddenly felt a glimmer of hope.

When Jarred found out that they were expecting a child, would he change his mind about the divorce?
